This is shamlessly stolen from this thread, but it was buried so deep that I felt it deserved a thread of its own.

The only thing making this not so hot a deal is that J & R is currently out of stock. They are accepting back orders on this item and are expecting more inventory in the next few days (I talked to them this morning ). If you get in quickly then hopefully you will get one delivered.

For those reading this, there is currently a deal floating around the forums (do a search) for a D-link 802.11b router with one wired port (hook up a hub/switch to it) for between $45-$50 shipped after $20 MIR. It's the two-antenna model, so it might have better range (?) and plus, it's not backordered.

I could have bumped the previous, but I thought that this deserved a thread of its own. You obviously disagree. Let's agree to disagree and move on.

Second, you got your info wrong. The $49.88 does not include shipping. My $54.94 does.

Yeah, it is not backordered. It is simply OUT OF STOCK!

This clearly didn't need a thread of its own, as the other thread says J+R wireless deals, and the primary message includes it (i.e. the top post).

It was not in any way shape or form burried, it was in the top post, clearly stated.

And since you note in your post that it is out of stock, there was no reason to post at all. You simply reposted a dead deal, which had been clearly poster already?

You're entitled to your opinion. Mine just happens to be different.

My goal was to give the Anandtech community the best shot at getting what I thought was a great deal. I felt that since the title wasn't specific to this deal, people were less likely to enter the thread. In addition, although the other three deals in the other thread were good, they were not great or of the same caliber and the title reflected it.

If you don't think this thread is necessary than you are welcome to boycott it and let the others here potentially benefit from it.

For being OUT OF STOCK and not being back ordered, it sure shipped quickly. Too bad you guys spent all your time jumping down my throat that you missed the deal.

i did a pricematch at officemax.com to tigerdirects price of 79.99 for the 1000AP and used a $30 off coupon...they subbed the 900AP so now i get to use the dlink rebate as i ordered before it expired!
66.35 shipped/ ca tax

got a ship date of 6.24...i just hope i get it. **note: this deal no longer works as the rebate is expired and OM no longer carries the 1000AP.

if you don't want to wait to see if J&R gets them in stock or wait for a rebate you can try pricematching at Officemax.com to another vendor that sells it for $90 (go to pricewatch) and use the 30 off coupon to bring it around $66.75 shipped.

The $50 rebate is J&R specific so you will not get the $50 rebate if you do not purchase through J&R. There are no current D-Link manufacturer rebates on the DWL-900AP.

A much better deal is the DWL-1000AP on clearance nationally at Staples B&Ms for $89.50. Use a coupon and get it for even less. The local B&M near us has a clearance specials where you can buy 30 clearance items and get 60% off of the clearance prices. There are many "filler" items less than $1.00 before the 60% discount so buying 30 items without is not a problem. For example, I purchased two DWL-1000APs for $35.90 ea and 4 DWL-500 for $16.50 ea and three DWL-650s for $14.00 and 6 DWL-120s for $12 ea and then applied a $30 coupon on top of that!

Garet Jax: forgot to point out that the dlink rebate has expired so the in stock deal now could be pricematching at OM to someone selling it for $90 on pricewatch to get it around $70 shipped...semi-hot. BUT: one could use their imagination on what to pricematch AND use the 30 off 150 coupon at officemax. it worked for me but who knows how long they will let you do it.
GetReal: thanks for the clarification and your B&M deal sounds very hot! is the 60% off clearance prices when you purchase 30 clearanced items national???!!!

I guess they think I ordered it on April Fool's Day, since they now state on my order status form that it is discontinued.

Hmmmm. Lots of other vendors list it as still available.

Yeah, but 802.11a does have its drawbacks... (less range, and more importantly, more expensive :Q)

Although that new 802.11g standard looks pretty nice, and it's 802.11b backwards-compatible, whereas 802.11a isn't.

I got impatient and decided to forgo the Access Point after I ordered under "Temporarily Out Of Stock." I called and spoke on the phone, trying to get an idea of when it might get in from the sales rep, and (after he tried to sell me an extended warranty plan

) he told me it would be a week... so I bought the DI-713P for $85 AR from Amazon, I like the switching, routing, and printing abilities for another $35... called J&R on Monday to cancel the DWL-900. After trying several times and waiting on hold, I got ahold of a rep. I told her I wanted to cancel my order; the woman exclaimed something to the effect of "why!? they are shipping out now!" I figured she was feeding me a line, and my suspicions were increased when she said "what if we take some money off of the price?" Now, switching, routing, and printing be damned, if I could get the DWL-900 for $40, I'd do it... but she said "well we can't go anywhere really, how about 5 bucks?" I laughed, said no thanks, and told her to cancel. She immediately put me on hold (wtf?) and came back 3 or 4 minutes later to tell me it'd been canceled. With this news about shipping, maybe I should have stuck with the order... but I wasn't going to wait for a week or more to possibly get the DWL-900 and miss out on the Amazon rebate for the DI-713. We shall see...

802.11a is nice and fast, but most of the places setting up wireless are using 802.11b - all the "hot spots" that are popping up, schools, "internet cafes," etc. Plus, 802.11b is so much cheaper.

I was going for the 713P also but it arrived yesterday and the wireless component was broken. Funny thing is i totally forgot that I ordered the J&R AP until I saw the shipping conf mail and was like WTF.....

In any event, If anyone could email me the rebate at jlaretto@fieldcentrix.com com, I would appreciate it much! Hmmm... profile says accepting PM's is allowed... wierd...
