This seems like a good deal. I didn't see it posted. If it is already posted don't start complaining. Anyways, Bestbuy has this router on their website. The Link. For $50 - $10mir - $10mir = $30 + tax maybe like a $3 shipping charge if you don't pick it up at the store. I don't know how good the router is so, maybe someone can tell me. I went ahead and ordered it for a customer. I guess I will find out in a couple days.

Would be a good deal if you have Cable but not for DSL users does not appear to have PPPoE authenication built in. I have the Dlink DI-704 which does have PPPoE and has worked flawlessly. I work for SBC and it seems that some people have trouble with the Linksys Routers losing connection and having to reboot them. But I have had no issues with the Dlink so Far. By the way I got the Dlink for Free from Last Years WinXP promos at Best Buy.

The description says it works for dsl and cable. Most dsl providers use PPPoE AFAIK.

I have some friends in the neighborhood that are looking for routers to go with there DSL service that support PPPoE. I am the one that finds the deals so they are always asking me. When I saw your post I thought I found them a good deal until I went to www.dlink.com and found that it does not state that it supports the PPPoE protocol. It discribes this model as a broadband router and the DI-704 as a Cable/DSL gateway. I wish it did support PPPoE. Thanks for the heads up though. Dennis

You're right. I went to the spec's page and it does not say it accepts ppoe. The 704 does. I was going to run down there and get it. Thanks for catching it

It does support PPPoE. I dl'ed the manual and it does have PPPoe support. Here is the link to the manual DI-604 Manual

You are correct. It does say it accepts pppoe in the manual. Thanks for the tip.

I stand corrected. I tried to click the PDF link to see the manual but kept getting an error. Thanks for the info. I will tell my buddies right away. I sure wish Dlink would do a better job of listing features on their website. Thanks for the follow up. Dennis

See excerpt be;low from The manual says "except DSL"

PPP over Ethernet (PPPoE): (ex: DSL users) Select this option if
your ISP requires the use of PPPoE to connect to their services.
Please see PPPoE section.

If you look at the shot of the setup software just above that though It says "Choose this option if your isp uses pppoe (For most dsl users)" so I'm confused again. Either the instructions or the software shot has to be wrong. Maybe I'll e-mail them.

ON page 19 it says "This option (pppoe) is typically used for dsl services.

The "ex." in your quote stands for "example" not "execept".

I think DI704 has a print server feature while DI604 doesn't. I'm not sure though so pls don't flame if I'm wrong. (well that's what a BB guy told me but not all of them know everything.)

I know the chance is slim but...does anyone have RCN as his/her ISP?? The way RCN sets up their cable modem is really weird and I'm wondering if DI604 or any other router would work on their cable modem network.
Basically downloads go through the coax cable like any other normal cable service but uploads go through this phone line attached to their special cable modem. Has anyone heard of this kind of structure??

Guys, this is a brand new D-Link product, they released it just few days ago and this sale is promotional.
Of course it accepts PPPoE, there would be ridiculous anybody releases new router that doesn't.

About quality, you will have to wait somebody uses it.

Does the 604 have any limitations on port forwarding? I can't see any mention of it at all. I am wanting to make sure I can forward SSH, etc. to my LAN from the internet.

You can test it out. Just don't cut out the UPC, and BB will take it back as long as you still have the packaging, manuals, etc. I jumped on the SpeedStream router deal and I haven't noticed significant slowdown.

i used one of those broadband online tests to get an idea of my speeds. w/the dlink 604 router, i got about 50% below the avg speed for my area. returned it, got a linksys router and the speed shot up to above the avg.

Will I be charged any restocking fee like CompUSA charges 15% for any open items?? There's plastic wrap on the box and I have to get rid off it to open the box.

If you dn't mind me asking, were the 2 tests conducted during the same hours of a day??
The reason I'm bugging everyone so much is the router is for my sister, who lives 5 hours away from me and I need to ensure what I'm getting is good to go.
