If you read my impressions from the first D201GLY board, this is sorta a followup.
Breifly, I booted into Vista Business with a new WD 3200AAKS in about 1:00 after a few reboots and after being defraged (will all available security updates installed) from start of OS boot to when everything was loaded and the HD quieted down. For SuSE 10.3, from hitting enter to boot it till it was done on the Gnome desktop took 1:05.
SuSE and Vista in 64bit mode works fine, except for the video tearing issue in SuSE. But, it is not as bad as before. The driver from Intel I found is actually made by dennis_chien@sis.com, licensed under the GPL. Unfortunately, I tried sending a message to that address, but there is no such address now. The package mentions 3D support and DRM support, but I didn't bother with Xgl. To install at least on SuSE 10.3 or perhaps any system with rpm, type rpm -i --force --nodeps and it should take.
I found the driver on a ubuntu forum.
SuSE 10.2 Driver for i586 arch
The board seems to lack standby entirely. At least the previous board had S1. In Vista it just turns off the monitor. SuSE 10.3 failed to enter any kind of standby as well, stating there is missing the components to do so.
Temps in an iStar s-3 series case are with a single 80mm exhaust fan
Ambient temp is 23c.
Case open: idle I get 38/45c.
With the cover closed at idle: 42/48
Running Prime95: 45/68-72c.
Fan seems to stay at the same rpms, though the auto fan speed funtion did work. I haven't seen it change speed since the BIOS update, and whether I change the new option in the BIOS to on or off for fan speed control, seems to not make a difference.
The complete system seems to take about 38 watts at idle and about 45-50watts on load.
