Is there anyway to get D2OL working whenever the welcome screen is up and no users are logged in on Windows XP?

The only way to do that is with the use of a service.
Unfortunatly I don't know of any D2OL services for windows. I did hear of a command line client, so maybe there does excist a service..

There are lot's of D2OL people around here, so there must be someone with a better answer then me!

Yup, Using FireDaemon here, now if I could just get the rest of the family to leave the computer on it would help

Reasons to leave the computer on all the time:

- cuts down on heating costs
- constant hum is actually calming
- won't wear out the on/off button forcing you to buy a new computer (how savvy is your family? )

Feel free to add to this list!

Well, due to having now worked out the cost I'm happy enough to leave it on. Was just wondering because it would be great to have it working while the computer is at the welcome screen, so a user comes up, turns on monitor, logs in and D2OL is working in the background no problem without any users logged in and when there are users logged in.

There are three modes in which the agent can be run: java-, cli- and file-based modes. If you want the process in the background, use the file-based mode. Details of these modes are given in <D2OL install dir>\D2OL\README.TXT.

To start in such a mode edit your control.prp and res\general.prp files with the options that you want and then launch the program from a command line:

D2OL controller:file

You should use the control.prp file to stop the agent gracefully. Just killing the process can corrupt the data files. I don't recall any problems with this in Windows, but I have used the file-based mode successfully on 60+ Linux processors. One last point---this method will not restart automatically on machine reboot, unless you can make a service out of a batch script that that starts the client in file-based mode.

As WTT0001 said you will need to use FireDaemon to run D2OL as a service. I am pushing to get a service option for 2.5 but not holding my breath. More of a 3.0 thing since 2.5 will basically be a release to improve stats.

Firedaemon is what the Cows use. I would check that out and ask any questions you might have about it on the D2OL as I run mine either command line or normal.

Also, D2OL will run as a screensaver(even as a blank one which crunches). the installer is at their site.
instructions on how to run the screensaver at the login screen can be found, but, I just couldn't get a google search to come up with anything. I've seen how to do it numerous times. I'll just edit this message once I find it. of course, somebody else could chime in

Found this, don't know if it works;

Enable/Disable Logon Screen Saver
Note: This applies only to the default Login [login.scr] screensaver and is not the same as screensaver selections made in the [Display Properties] property sheet accessed by right clicking on the desktop and selecting [Properties] from the context menu.

[Start] [Run] [Regedit]
Registry Key: HKEY_USERS\.DEFAULT\Control Panel\Desktop
Data Type: REG_SZ [String Value] // Value Name: ScreenSaveActive
Modify/Create the Value Name [ScreenSaveActive] according to the Value Data listed below.
Value Data: [0 = ScreenSaveActive Disabled / 1 = ScreenSaveActive Enabled]
Exit Registry and Reboot

Haven't a clue as to how you set the login.scr to the one you want

Andy: What about simply overwriting the logon.scr with one of your choice?

Problem solved?
