I remember one time my dad came back from pheasant hunting and started to butcher the bird. He cut off the foot and when he did, some tendons were hanging out the end. My youngest brother (probably about 5-6 at the time) discovered that he could "pull the string" and the foot would grab things. Imagine mom's surprise when he made his pheasant foot pick up a pencil on the table! That was some funny shit.
Bottom line is, if you teach kids to be scared or fearful of things at that age, it lasts a lifetime. She wasn't doing anything wrong, so why make a big deal out of it?
