Years ago I watched a SWAT team raid a house.

I was walking the dog before I went to work. Shady looking old Chevy Suburban, dark tinted windows, shadowing the school bus as it picked up kids. This was before cell phones, so I ran into the house and grabbed a cordless phone, call the cops. I went back outside to see what they were doing, and when the school bus pulled away from the bus stop down the street, these damn ninjas came from ever where, and descended on a house. They had been waiting for the bus to pick up the kid before raiding.

Turns out, he was a convicted bank robber that escaped from prison in Indiana, made it to Tennessee picked up his girlfriend and her kid, rented a U-Haul, and robbed a house, of everything. Even taking the dog and houseplants, and moved here like they were a family just relocating. Enrolled the kid in school, the whole bit.

Later found out that the FBI had been surveilling the house from a neighbors' garage for almost a week. Of course, they weren't allowed to tell friends "guess who we got hiding in our garage" until it was over.

Of course during all this I'm standing in the middle of the street, with a cordless phone in hand, completely gob struck as to what I'm watching unfold down the street.

yeah they mostly stopped providing strong painkillers a decade ago

i get a few massive headaches a year that feel like someone's kicking me in the side of the head with a boot. used to get rx for 4 or 5 pills a year which could take care of those headaches in an hour, but now each headache sticks around for several days while i down OTC painkillers + caffeine around the clock until it goes away.

i can't imagine having something that hurts every day and not being able to get relief.

we used to have a guy in medicine on this forum (tynopik i think) who said that people need to just learn to deal with it.
