I don't even know what to make of this :hmm:
It means that your implication that PC gamers aren't absolutely batshit insane about graphics performance and prefer increased load times is the most ridiculous, absurd, delusional thing I've heard so far on this forum.

Maybe you don't care about graphical performance and would prefer saving money and getting an SSD; but most gamers wouldn't even think about touching an SSD before they got their hands on a high-end video card.

You can easily drop the aftermarket cooler down to a Hyper 212+ or dump it altogether to get down close to the budget.

As for the SSD, I still say to get a Sandforce, there are plenty of non-OCZ ones out there (Patriot, G.Skill, Muskin, Corsair).

Yep i know i could've i figured i would actually use my "+/- 10%" notice once or twice. And the samsung controller is similar to the sandforce one.

Why dont you create your own thread if that is what you want to do?

My bad, I interpreted your post to mean that the Samsung was architecturally similar to the Sandforce, not that its performance is similar (which is what you meant).

Yea i was wondering if it came off that way, but yea performance.

Out of curiosity, I didn't see any after market coolers until you hit the $1200 mark, and then dropped the DH14 without stepping through any of the other coolers. Any reason why?

I ask in particular as I am debating between getting a 212+ vs the DH14.

I mention the 212+ but i dont make it part of the build because it is an optional component at the 1.2k price point and above i figure you will probably be OC'ing and should include it in the budget. If you have the budget for either the DH14 without a doubt.

Updated with day 6

I don't think that this build is nearly as good as the previous days' builds. You tried to split the different between a high-end gaming machine and a midrange workstation and ended up with a mess IMHO.

For gaming, I would drop the RAM down to 8GB (-$80), drop the mobo to an ASRock P55 Extreme4 (-$30), drop the PSU down to an XFX 750W (-$20), halve the SSD to 60GB (-$80) and use the savings to get two 6950 2GB cards (+$174). Needless to say, this will own your config in the gaming department and have the potential to unlock to CFX 6970s (the highest-performing dual-GPU solution from AMD).

For a workstation, I would cut the second GTX 460 (-$190), cut the D14 (-$90), drop the PSU down to an Antec 520C (-$90). From there you could either pocket the change or upgrade various components of the system depending on intended use.

Great post/thread, look forward to your Sandy Bridge builds, although I have already bought my RAM, SSD, and will be using some existing components.

could you perhaps add a home theater build to the mix? that should cover about all the bases.
