Been assembling parts for almost a year and have come close to putting together my new daily driver. The wife stole my g35 so I have been driving my 300zx. Ive put 20k trouble free miles on the z32 and all it does it do exactly what I want. I also shut down everything outside of my buddies lingentfelter twin turbo. I want to do some upgrades and paint on the Z so I needed something to drive this summer so here comes a ls1 1996 240sx.
Last winter I picked up a s14 that wasnt running for a few hundred and started planning for a ls1 swap.
When thinking about doing a v8 240 I thought about a few different setups. After ruling out a toyota and a nissan v8 swap I ended up going with a ls1 for obvious reasons. I decided on a 2002 SS auto dropout with 50k miles since it was an auto and I the likelyhood of revving abuse and 5k rpm clutch drops is nil on a auto. I pulled off the 4l60 and put it in storage for a future iron block 4.8 turbo project and started sourcing a t56.
In the last two years the prices of used F-body t-56s has skyrocketed so I went with a GTO t56 and Z06 clutch for the better gearing over the f body and the streetability of a stock clutch capable of 500hp. Almost went with a diamond stage two but I dont plan on going over 500hp on this car so it didnt make sense.
I have ordered ls6 timing chain and a melling 10295 and HP tuners as well as water pump and gaskets plus some hooker swap parts.
The cost of a ls1 swap has dropped a ton in the last few years outside of the tranny. A guy in florida makes plates to put a z32 or a z33 trans on a LS1 and I almost went that route till I found my T56 for 1400.
more picts and info to come.
