So I keep having nightmares, and recently I've started noticing my teeth hurt when I wake up, possibly from grinding them when I'm sleeping but I'm not a anxiety grinder or anything. The nightmares tend to be about my car getting damaged or some family coming to live with me again. Neither of these are real concerns, I'm happy as well, I don't get why I keep having these nightmares, almost daily. I'm 24, happy, life is fine/good. So what gives :\

I'd get a sleep study done.

I had night terrors for years, turns out it was low blood sugar. Changed how & what I eat at night, went away. Downside is I rarely remember dreams anymore :\

Speaking of reoccurring dreams, I often get school related dreams, like that they found out I actually failed a course or something like that and accidentally passed me, and that I had to go back to school. Sometimes it's high school, other times it's college. It usually involves forgetting which locker is mine or what my combination is, or both. Or not finding the class room itself. Recently though that changed, now I'll just be in class or even at home, and come to the realization that I have not been to math in months, then I start to panic realizing that I'm probably so behind in that class, then I try to think of where my schedule even is because I've been going by memory all this time, but clearly forgot what period math is. Then I wake up in relief realizing that I don't have math anymore, then as I wake up further I'm even more relieved when I realize I'm not even in school anymore. :awe:

I always find those so interesting because they are so vivid. Been a while since I've had one though.

I have nightmares of returning to my car in the parking lot and finding it stripped of various parts or missing completely. It's all very upsetting in the dream. Now, I cherish my car, but I never worry about it during waking hours. I don't know why my brain wants to torment me with nightmare scenarios.

You guys need to try learning how to lucid dream. Take control. You can even control whether to wake up or stay asleep. I did it once or twice years ago but I haven't tried it since. I'm sure I could do it again if I tried. I don't have nightmares though.

Maybe see a certified hypnotherapist if you can afford it. They can teach you how to do self hypnosis right before you go to sleep.

Incidentally that's why some religions tell you to say your prayers at night before you go to sleep. It's a form of self hypnosis.

I had a dream about lifting a sea turtle out of the sand. As I pulled him up, the sand consumed me until I was gone. Like the mirror scene in the first matrix.

It was the only night terror I've had, made me wake up screaming.

I've had dreams where I'm actually aware that I'm dreaming, and can somewhat control stuff, but it's not really something I can just make happen on the spot. Usually if I realize I'm dreaming, I have to try to not blink in the dream, if I blink, I wake up.

I sometimes get dreams inside of dreams too. These typically happen in the morning after I've hit snooze. Can have hours or even days worth of dreaming in that 10 minute of real time.

I have these too, and to me that's the most interesting part - it's not that I haven't been doing my homework, or that I got a C on the midterm - no, it's that I straight forgot the class existed and didn't show up for two months. And then, somehow, I think I might still have a chance at it.

Even if you learn how to do it, it's still uncommon to happen for most people.
