Dallas Cowboys...NFC East?

New York, Philadelphia, Wash. DC, ....Dallas, TX???
why are the Dallas Cowboys in the East? Why aren't they in the NFC South? Throw Carolina into the east and put Dallas into the NFC south?

Is there an actual explanation to this other than "they felt like it"?

Tradition. Dallas vs NY and Dallas vs Washington are much bigger games, draw more fans and get better ratings than Carolina vs NY or Carolina vs Washington.
