Seems defective? Did you buy it brand new? Were you running Prime95 to test an overclock, which could mean it wasn't originally defective?

It is used. I would imagine he bought it from another user. Did it have the damage when you got it? Or did you damage it? It is pretty easy to figure out who to blame. Looks like you might just need to buy a new cpu though.

That capacitor on the right looks burnt. Also the cpu itself looks warped to me.

I believe the problem is the CPU is too blurry, probably caused by phase shifting between universes and giving anomalous results...

Glad it wasn't just me seeing this, I was getting ready to change out my contacts to the next magnification level.

So I can see 2 areas of concern, where one of the big components is affected and also one of the small components (kind of opposite end of the chip to the big one).

But I swear the big component doesn't look like damage, it looks like repair? Perhaps the small one has been repaired too?

The point is that if it's just damage, the seller could argue it was your fault. But if it's a botched and obvious poor repair attempt just to resell a damaged chip, you have a much better argument to say it came that way with that sloppy repair job.

But is returning/exchanging the chip still an option? If you got it on Ebay, I think you will get the chip for free if you just point out that the item description does not match the item, because the item is visibly damaged/non-functional.

You have to actually return the item to the buyer to get a refund. Or anyone could just claim something and get a free item. Make them sign for it when you send it back. that way all doubt is removed so you can get a refund or another cpu if you wish.

Where did you get it from and did you contact them? I'm curious to what they said about it.

It could be repaired. I just want a stable working CPU, im pretty sure i will be able to get a replacement.

I think they are not touching, the CPU is working but will become unstable when stressed.
