You're a big man to admit to being a Zune fan.

Anyways, it's interesting to have watched this AnandTech PC geekdom gradually turn into an Apple love-fest.

Ironically, as the Mac lovin' ramped up, I got more PCs, because Windows 7 doesn't actually completely suck. I'll also likely be holding off on a new Mac until they get USB 3.

There is a discconnect between anandtech forum readers and anandtech webpage readers. The forum is pretty low on tech level. Anandtech is mostly still PC parts.

I am back in forth with mac, I wouldn't buy one but i do hackintosh. iPhone (with ecosystem) can't be beat though. Mac laptops quality is pretty high but so is the price and without windows included in the cost...

Gaming still sucks on mac too.

I don't own any Apple PCs, and don't have much of a desire to. I've thought about purchasing a Mac Mini in the past for iOS development, but I know I'd never use it. I actually like my Windows desktop and rather enjoy building them, but I have no qualms with owning an Apple mobile device as they work rather well.

Usually how it works.
Once you cave there is no going back.

I really didn't have a choice. My wife has used Apple since college because of her jobs (art), and my company went full on apple 5 years ago. Traveling a lot, I let my PC's at home go to waste and never replaced them since the only thing I used them anymore was for gaming...and the Xbox 360 has that covered. We've been apple only now for 3 or so years.

Started with an iPhone 3GS, then iPhone 4, then iPod Touch for sister's bday, then iPhone 4 for my wifey, then top of the line 2011 iMac for myself.

Damn I'm an apple whore

As successful as Apple has been I am still very paranoid about owning Apple stock. At this point in time there are businesses' with better ROI in my opinion. I am not sure Apple with become 2X its current stock value anytime soon (soon being within the next year or so).

I bought my first Apple product a few months ago when the iPad 2 came out. I have a 4S coming tomorrow and when my notebook is ready to be replaced next year it will be a Macbook Pro. I hate to say it but, it just works. I'm tired of tweaking, hacking, rooting, flashing, etc.

I feel like an old person agreeing with you but it's the biggest reason I love Apple.

My home built desktop is sitting useless right now because it is stuck in a reboot loop. If it were a Mac, I could just drop it off at the Apple store in town and they would fix it for free. I couldn't do that with any other prebuilt maker, unless I had bought it from a Microsoft Store (which i am really, really close to doing for my next PC purchase).

Figure someone might do it...

TRS-80 Model 3 -> PC/XT clone -> 386sx -> 486sx -> 486dx -> Cyrix 5x86 -> Pentium -> Pentium II -> AMD K6 -> AMD Athlon (K7) -> AMD Athlon 64 -> AMD Phenom II -> Intel i7 920 -> Intel i7 870S ... All DOS and/or Windows based sans the TRS-80.

Smartphones:
MyTouch 3g -> iPhone 2 (Lasted all of a month) -> Droid Eris -> iPhone 3g (lasted all of 3 weeks) -> Samsung Vibrant -> Dell Venue Pro (WP7)

Sorry, I've tried MacOS, OSX, iOS... and I just can't like em. Plus, given Apple is allergic to gaming on their desktop platforms (maybe that will change now that Jobs is gone), I have next to zero interest in a dead-end niche platform. (Yes, them's fighting words. Flame on!)

(Most) Developers don't seem to have much desire in developing for a platform with such a (comparatively) small install base. That doesn't mean it isn't possible to develop for OSX... Id Tech 5 should run on it fine given it uses OpenGL, but even then... Rage wasn't even released for OSX, and won't be:

http://www.idgames.de/showthread.php/12896-idGames-Exclusive-Interview-with-Tim-Willits

Most games are developed using DirectX-based engines, which means the chances of seeing a port are even slimmer, but if you want one... you may want to consider supporting Blizzard. They seem to be the only company that always releases an OSX version.

Yep, the phone roms finally got to me, and the radios in the ThunderBolt, using it is like trying to commute with a hot rod car, it works, but what a pita to get it to work...

It used to be fun to get a custom pc up and running, now I don't have the time and I'm running out of patience.

As far as the Apple stock, several factors predispose it to buying & selling it. I've bought and sold all of my Apple stock something like 30 times this year, only losing on 2 trades when I got anxious. I flipping paid off my mortgage with earnings from Apple. If I was smarter or braver, I'd do options and be a millionaire...

It started so simple, daughter wanted an Apple notebook for college.

Bought a MacBook from Kaido for her
Bought a gen 1 iPad
Bought an iPad 2
Bought a MBA 11" first gen (gave it to daughter for college)
Bought a MBA 13" second gen
Just bought a used iPhone (Verizon) on eBay to replace my Android phone.

HTPC is the only Windows device I own now... Holy crap, I would never have thought I'd go Apple.

I have 500+ shares of Apple stock too.

I got into the AAPL stock as well when it hot 360 a few days ago. so snagged myself 100 stocks.

Aim for next year is to be able to get to 200 stocks at current price by end of 2012.

lets see how that goes.

That's my biggest hesitation right now in not getting an iMac. I might hold off until the spring and see if Ivy Bridge and USB 3 make their way into them.

Even without USB3, I'm hoping the 3rd parties like Monoprice.com come out with affordable solutions to convert the thunderbolt port to a USB3 type hub or eSATA or something like that.

I just want (even though my Air doesn't have Thunderbolt) the guts of the 27" Thunderbolt Display as a standalone box. A breakout box with firewire, USB, ethernet, video, audio, and TB pass-through. That's a winner right there. Especially if they threw eSATA into the mix.

Belkin is supposedly building a thunderbolt dock that has all the connections of the thunderbolt display. I bought my 27" ACD a year ago and I wish I had the Thunderbolt version. One cable to rule them all is very nice to have with a laptop.

The 12" PowerBook G4 came out a long while after OS X did.

The useless 10.0 beta came out March 2001, and the true release 10.1 version came out in September 2001. (However, in truth I didn't start recommending OS X until about 10.3.)

The 12" PowerBook G4 came out in 2003.

Pissed me off too. I bought the iBook G3 600 immediately after OS X 10.1 was released. After using it a year I decided the G3 was too crippled and waited for the next PowerBook. I desperately wanted a 12" G4 iBook, but figured it wouldn't come out for a very long time. In November 2002, Apple released the PowerBook G4 Titanium with SuperDrive and I bought one.

The part that pissed me off was the fact that the 12" G4 iBook I wanted came out just 2 months later, except they just called it a PowerBook.

You're so right.... I guess I felt it was "new" to me LOL.... Still have it and it runs great if you're looking to pick up a "vintage" one....

There are PCIe boxes in the works.
Just get one of those and put in whatever card you want.

That is the beauty of Thunderbolt.

I am constantly tempted by the idea of dropping an SSD into the 12" PowerBook that I have, but then i have no idea what I would use it for. The 11" Air that I have supersedes the 12" in every regard. Obviously it is faster, but it has the better trackpad, is significantly lighter and thinner and is shorter from back to front, making it better for airplanes.

This. I'm only 31, but I'm past my days of modding, tweaking, overclocking, rooting, and whatever else to my pcs and phones. Maybe it's because I deal with computers and servers and phones all day, and when I get home I don't want to mess with the shit anymore, just want it to work right.

Valve releases OS X versions of all their new games now. EA and Ubisoft release their games for Mac as well, more often than not.
