It started so simple, daughter wanted an Apple notebook for college.

Bought a MacBook from Kaido for her
Bought a gen 1 iPad
Bought an iPad 2
Bought a MBA 11" first gen (gave it to daughter for college)
Bought a MBA 13" second gen
Just bought a used iPhone (Verizon) on eBay to replace my Android phone.

HTPC is the only Windows device I own now... Holy crap, I would never have thought I'd go Apple.

I have 500+ shares of Apple stock too.

What do you use your HTPC for? Time for a mac mini or Apple Tv + firecore

I no longer have a windows device. It feels good

I'm sure you realize AAPL essentially has been paying you to drink the Kool-Aid.

Usually how it works.
Once you cave there is no going back.
I just went from an ancient iPhone 3G to an LG Optimus One. Wouldn't mind a real upgrade to an iPhone 4, but I'm cheap.

Ha! Same for me.
- Bought iPhone4 @ Verizon release in February
- Got Apple TV in June
- Got iPad 1st gen on cheap closeout at Sam's in July
- Wife ordered 4S iPhone for Verizon last week
- Got a 13" MBA this week

And now I'm eyeing an open box 27" iMac for $1450 at Best Buy.

I've owned a few different Macbooks / pros. I've never really gotten into them. Sold them all.

I really liked the iPod Touch, but the Zune subscription service was a much better value for the money so I had to get Zune players, and I sold the iPod.

The iPad (2) though, that was a keeper. Possibly until I get the iPhone. Not sure if I'll need / use both.

You're a big man to admit to being a Zune fan.

Anyways, it's interesting to have watched this AnandTech PC geekdom gradually turn into an Apple love-fest.

Ironically, as the Mac lovin' ramped up, I got more PCs, because Windows 7 doesn't actually completely suck. I'll also likely be holding off on a new Mac until they get USB 3.

That's my biggest hesitation right now in not getting an iMac. I might hold off until the spring and see if Ivy Bridge and USB 3 make their way into them.

I think it's a long way from being a love fest, start a thread about Apple and you have an instant flame war. It's more than a little stupid.

Actually, getting over my attitude about Apple was a big issue for me, sort of swallowed my pride to start using Apple.

As far as the HTPC, is there anything that works as a tuner card in the Apple world? Streaming is fine, but I like OTA HDTV and the DVR like features of Windows Media Center.

Well similar....
12" Powerbook G4, got it right after OSX came out
20G ipod in 2006, I have 7 more of them now, including 1G Ipod touch and two upgrades from nano's to Ipod Touch 4G.... Wife and daughter have Verizon Iphone 4's, wife has Ipad 1, I have a Macbook Pro 13". I also have two Airport Extreme's, 1 at home and 1 at work.

I'd love to pick up a 1G Ipod TV or Mac mini, or a MBA but maybe not....

I went with Apple because I decided I no longer needed a desktop, and I'd rather buy a laptop that I can sell later for little loss. Enter MacBook Pro.

I imagine my next laptop will be the next version of the Air.

I can see what you mean. I was big against Apple myself but I sucked it up and bought an iPhone 3g a few years back because it was the only phone to give you true web browsing on a mobile and I was in much need of that. I had to ditch it for Verizon and the original Droid purely because of AT&T being horrid in my area at the time.

I bought an iPad2 back in May kinda on a whim, thinking it'd be cool to have but I wouldn't really USE IT, but now I use it TONS lol.

& now I'm getting an iPhone 4S tomorrow, the slippery slope has begun.

the wife has a macbook pro which I have rarely use, I still use PC's in my main desktop environment, and since I work with Windows-based computers everyday/all day I can't really see myself switching in that department....but only time shall tell.

It's been a very slow warm up for me. I used to be a "PC Fanboy" even just a few years ago. But as I get older, find tinkering with computers much less enjoyable, and find my actual useage patterns to be much more predictable and narrow in focus (web browsing and skype mostly) I just want something that works. I don't want to mess with things. I don't want to constantly upgrade. I don't want to spend hours trying to clean off malware. I just want to turn on the thing and have it do what I need.

Apples device integration between products has been excellent. I no longer have the deep rooted hatred of iTunes that I used to...but then again I don't have a single song loaded on there. I stream everything at this point. So backing up devices and copying movies to the iPad has been very easy.

OS wise, OSX is simple enough to use that I was up and running in minutes after turning on my Macbook Air. For my narrow focus of use, it's a great web browsing device and iPhotos is a great built in app for picture management. I've been very happy so far in my limited use. There's still a lot of Windows based stuff I need to do for work, so I'll either end up bootcamping or keeping a windows box laying around. But for most of our household consumption I think Apple will eventually supplant the PC.

The 12" PowerBook G4 came out a long while after OS X did.

The useless 10.0 beta came out March 2001, and the true release 10.1 version came out in September 2001. (However, in truth I didn't start recommending OS X until about 10.3.)

The 12" PowerBook G4 came out in 2003.

Pissed me off too. I bought the iBook G3 600 immediately after OS X 10.1 was released. After using it a year I decided the G3 was too crippled and waited for the next PowerBook. I desperately wanted a 12" G4 iBook, but figured it wouldn't come out for a very long time. In November 2002, Apple released the PowerBook G4 Titanium with SuperDrive and I bought one.

The part that pissed me off was the fact that the 12" G4 iBook I wanted came out just 2 months later, except they just called it a PowerBook.

I have a little USB stick thing with a coax input as well as component, then you use elgato eyetv software for the playback. I don't use it any more, but the tech is there.

Once you cave there is no going back.

We went...

Custom PC -> MacBook -> Mac Mini -> Mac Mini Server -> Mac Mini -> Dell Win7 Gaming Laptop -> iMac

in addition to...

iPod -> iPod Nano (x2) -> iPhone 3gs(x2) -> iPad + iPhone4s(x2)

I followed a pretty similar progression.

I was a very tech-literate PC user for many years, and built many machines and made many major upgrades (mobo, CPU, RAM, video card) over that time.

In late 2006 I needed a new laptop after my Dell more or less self-destructed, just out of warranty. I bought a T-series ThinkPad and really disliked my experience with the computer and Lenovo support, so I sent it back. I ended up buying a white MacBook with the intention of running Windows. I quickly realized I preferred OSX, and was off and running.

Since then I have purchased an iPhone 3G, iPhone 4, 13" MacBook Pro, iPad 1, a second iPad 1 as a gift, iPad 2 as a gift, and a 13" MacBook Air as a gift, as well as a Time Capsule, Airport Extreme, iPod Classic, and a couple of iPod Nanos. I just find Apple products much more pleasant to use than Windows, and now the only time I use Windows is for work. My 13" MBP is the best machine I've ever owned, by far: http://forums.anandtech.com/showthread.php?t=2170868&highlight=. If I wanted a desktop (I really don't use one at home), I'd buy an iMac, and in fact I am toying with getting one for my next computer at work - we only have one application that requires Windows and I can run that virtually if necessary.

I went from custom PC --> crappy HP laptop --> 13" MBP --> just ordered a 4S last night (replacing og EVO). Next up will probably be an iPad. Not sure if I'll get into Apple TV and doubt I'll ever buy another desktop.

Went through multiple desktop PCs and one Dell E1505(?) laptop as my setup. Then went to 13" MBA (which I currently use), 27" ACD, Magic Trackpad, and Apple Wireless keyboard (sold latter three).

Thought about going with a mac mini for server and streaming (something like that) or time capsule for backups but I've been itching to build a small all-in-one PC (already have two 2TB HDs from previous builds, W7 pro 64-bit OS that needs to be used, i3-2100t, and mITX mb) for that - just need to find the right case. Love apple laptops but I still like having a PC around (especially since it's easier to connect to with my droid inc2 and nook color - though its not out of the realm of possibility that I'd get a iphone down the line and maybe ipad [nook color was a gift from gf so i don't know about that haha]).

Elgato EyeTV is great, too bad it's a little pricey.
