damn 8hka+

Okay here is the situation. I got the board awhile ago, and i still can't post. MY last pc burned up, so i had to replace it.]

Anyways, coupled with 512ddr and an athlon Xp 1800, this damn thing still won't work.


I get the error 7f: reset 8042 interface.

possibilities


1. Cmos battery is dead. I have reset it countless times to no avail.

2. Bad PS. i was the original ps from my other machine. 300 watt antec that came with 1030x case. Can it be screwed up? seems to start the board fine, until i get the error. I never get a post. For those of you who don't know, the epox has a little debugging display led on the board.

bad ram? It's brand new Infineon. I get no memeory error beep. ( itried without the memopry to hear the beep, therfore the ram is fine.

3. I tried different cpus. None work


help fast!!

I got that error after I flashed to the new BIOS. When I reset the CMOS, it started working again.

Note that you might want to leave the CMOS reset jumper in reset position for a while - I've seen some posts saying it took 10 minutes to reset. Other posts said they barely waited a second and it worked fine. I waited about 20 secs, myself. So your mileage may vary.

I don't own this board, so I'm not the expert. But to me it sounds like you have a DOA mobo. Being that it's a new mobo, I doubt the battery is dead, but you could buy another one to check. They are like $1.50. You did the right thing by trying with the memory removed to hear the "beep", but your memory could still be faulty. Try another stick....you're in the dorms (your words) I'm sure someone will let you borrow a stick of DDR for a few minutes....if still no post your board is dead. Sorry. Antec makes some of the best PSs out there. don't think that's it.

I'll try to leave the jumper reset for that long..I'll tell you if it works.

Can't try the cmos battery replacement thing because there aren't any pc shops aroung here

Have you got the CPU FSB jumper set at 133 for your XP?

When you reset the CMOS, pull out the power cord from your PSU and leave it on reset for a minute.

Could be the power supply, but that's the easy way out. Let's try everything else first.

^What he said. Also, that CMOS battery is most prolly a CR2032. It's sooooooooo common. PDA's use them as well as calculators and watches. KMart has them.

Make sure your mobo isnt shorting out to your case. See if there are extra screws that are not used under the board. I had a simlilar problem awhile ago and found out it wasnt the CPU or anything else but becuz there were unused screws under my mobo, touching the circuits. Also, check all the jumper settings and etc. Well good luck!

Alleyezon, I know what you mean about those metal stand offs. I replaced my KT7A with the 8KHA+, not realising it had a totally different config for the screws. Only noticed because I had a quick glance checking the clearance between the board and case.

Bet this is a common problem resulting in what people think are DOA boards

how long are you trying to get the board to work now ?

in the same time i would already have sent theat thang back and get a replacement..it obviously doesn't work.....
