DUI/DWI laws are much worse and these people are not killing people everyday. Statistically it's near the rarest of fatalities and injuries.

It makes a lot of MONEY for the county and MADD/SADD though. They are one of the most powerful lobbies and take further contributions to bundle other issues with their own to push through the system.

They are sending even celebs to jail now.

Agreed.

regardless of the law and whether or not it is excessive or ridiculous, it is the law and common sense would tell you not to break the law unless you can handle the possible consequences.

Dont complaint when you get caught and face punishment when you knew what was right and wrong in the first place.

LOL you people bitching about getting busted for pot are exactly like the people bitching for getting busted for going 70 in a 60. You broke the law, you knew you were breaking the law, deal with the consequences of breaking the law.

You don't like the law? Fine, write your congressman. I personally think that pot SHOULD be legalized, but I sure as hell won't even try it until it does. Why? I have heard, and correct me if I am wrong, IT'S AGAINST THE FUCKING LAW.

Smoking pot is against the law.

awww. how honorable. you looking for a perfect citizen award?

hope you've never strayed above the speed limit, smoked any kind of tobacco under 18, or consumed any alcohol before turning 21 (whatever your current age may be).

what? what he said is the plain truth. it doesn't matter whether the law is archaic, or whether you think its wrong or not. It's against the law and when you break the law, you have to be ready to suffer the consequences if you get caught.

there's nothing "perfect citizen" or "goody goody" or whatever about it.

I speed often, but I sure as hell don't get pissed when a cop gives me a ticket. Why? BECAUSE I WAS KNOWINGLY BREAKING THE LAW.

I have never smoked tobacco or pot and never will, it's fucking nasty.

And I had a grand total of 2 sips of alcohol before I turned 21. Guess what? If I had gotten caught taking one or both of those sips and gotten a ticket/jail time/any other punishment, I wouldn't be bitching. Know why? I think you SHOULD be smart enough to guess but I am not so sure so I will say it for you.

so knowing that in many instances, drinking underage or speeding is punishable with a certain typical punishment (small fine, probation, etc) across most states, yet for some reason, you barely consumed any alcohol and got some insane punishment compared to other cases.. you would take it like a bitch? that's funny, most people know when they are being wronged. Just because you commit a crime, doesn't mean you should just take a rape from the justice system.

pot punishment for such a small offense (possession of a small amount) has always wielded a punishment of some relatively small fine and probation at worst. i've never really heard of an individual having any kind of extended jail time for possession of a small amount. large amounts are a totally different ballgame. So with that in mind, all of a sudden you get slapped with this lengthy prison sentence and bank-raping fine... that's wrong in all sense of the word.
I don't condone law breaking, but I do support a fair justice system.

Is the law clear about punishment? yes. There is a range but for everything you do you can look up that range and find out the possible consequences. If you decide to do it after that it's your fault.

It's against the law.

Let me say that again, it's against the law.

One more time since you don't seem to get it, you break the law, you know you are breaking the law, be prepared to deal with the consequences...of breaking the law.

If you DIDN'T break the law you wouldn't have to take ANY chance of a harsh sentence. But if you do, you are taking a risk. If that's worth it to you, fine fo ahead.

But don't come in here and bitch about being punished FOR BREAKING THE FUCKING LAW.

It's really, REALLY simple.

I am not really sure who the hell people think they are that they deserve a slap on the wrist if they break the law, maybe that's just the society we live in. But if I do something wrong, especially if I KNOW I am doing something wrong, I accept the consequences.

"Just because you commit a crime, doesn't mean you should just take a rape from the justice system."

I really can't believe you said this. just wow.

1 gram? Damn, I thought that's a pretty harsh punishment...but then I saw that you're in Texas.

Dude, move out of redneck hickville.

yep.....

that's what got me in a mess of trouble too...

i ended up sitting in county for a month over a 1 gram poss. charge

Yep, it's a good thing they're incarcerating people for 1 gram of pot in Texas. Got to keep the quality of life up there you know.

Let's see, we could let him off with a slap on the wrist and he could go back to work and be a productive member of society or we could toss him in jail for a month, at taxpayer's expense.

It wouldn't shock me if you start seeing Texas enact laws banning even thinking about cannabis.

Want to know the reason Texas is tough on drugs? It's not because we have nothing better to do, it's because the drugs come in from mexico into Texas and then to the rest of the country. We are trying to do something about it.

Here's a little tip for the OP if he is serious and not being a douche(dime) bag and looking for more attention. STOP DOING DRUGS if you don't want to get put in the pokey. You are breaking the law, take responsibility for it. Don't blame anyone else except yourself.
Oh and do us a favor, move to California, your cry baby attitude will get you further over there.

c'mon man...you're a disgrace to your username. The Dude would certainly not abide those comments

It is against the law so its good that he got caught.

not true there are plenty of archaic laws still on the books that if pursued would make complete mockery of what should be considered justice.

Sorry. But it's against the law and its true. What you believe is archaic may not be so in someone elses view.

No need for a fool to apologize. Your premise is that it is good for anyone who is breaking any law to get caught. Your not right in the head if you believe that.

Alabama - Dominoes may not be played on Sunday. - you would be all for prosecution of children enjoying this game on sunday?

Hartford, CT - its illegal to kiss your wife on sunday

the list goes on and on and on.......... www.dumblaws.com

yeah, and it was also OK up into the 60s to segregate black people and treat them as second class citizens. It was the law, so, how can I complain.

It was also illegal to criticize the Nazi party..etc.

the list can go on. The drug thing is a bit of a different issue, but such comments "It's the law and it must be obeyed" are dangerously un-American.

Also its funny. I'm addicted to a drug. Completely dependant on it. Its called Zoloft. Yet if I stop taking it I become a danger to myself and society. Its court ordered that I be addicted to it and use it.

IT WAS AGAINST THE FUCKING LAW.

Just because the idiots in Washington can pass a law doesn't mean I have to accept, like, or "deal" with it. I can recognize when a law has no benefit towards society and serves only to benefit the people who supply the prison system and is racist in it's enforcement. "IT'S THE LAW" can not be used to justify bad or broken laws, for it just encourages the creation or more unjust laws. As an American it is your duty to protest bad government policy and any American that favors prohibition on cannabis just clueless about it's overarching effects.

I recommend you pick up a history book and actually read some American history, specifically the argument against cannabis prohibition in the early 1900s. Specifically when it was argued that freedom of speech extended to freedom of mind.

It's against the law for women to drive in Memphis, TN without a man a consistent 50 ft ahead waving two red flags. Yet, most women in Memphis, TN drive. They should be arrested because they are breaking the "FUCKING LAW."
