<< And of course, nothing beats Saturday afternoon at the ballpark drinking beer, eating some goobers, and just watching a game >>

You know, when I was 11-12 I skipped a math exam along with several other people in order to go see Bulgaria vs. Germany play for the world cup (qualifications). Germany was leading 2-1 before half time, but in the second half, we dominated and scored two goals. By the time the score was 3-2 for us, I was hugging and dancing and singing with total strangers in the rain. Now that was incredible and it sure beats drinking beer and eating overpriced hot dogs while watching a buncha guys stand around for three hours.

Soccer is a much better name than football, besides, what would we call Football (the one that we play with our hands) if we changed Soccer to Football? Why call Football (the one you play with your hands) American Football if we were in America?

Matter of opinion, I dont think anything can beat Saturday afternoon at the ballpark. And riots at baseball games are quite infrequent.

And I dont eat hot dogs, only goobers

than why is baseball the #1 past time?

I could have sworn that basketball had surpassed baseball in popularity according to polls . . . I thought baseball ran a close second to football followed by hockey.

I'm going off of memory of some poll I saw on ESPN, so sue me.

#1 reason I dont watch soccer:
GOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOL!

i lived in Ireland for two years, and the Soccer action there and on the English Premier leagues on the telly were spectaculor.

Watching Soccer here is like watching basketball played by other nations (especially those western Euro teams). We suck at soccer, they suck at Basketball...haha.

If the US ever really got into Rugby, though, I thinkk we'd rule the world in it.

edit: I must say, there's nothing like sitting down in the open air to take in a leisurely three hours or so of relaxing baseball on a lazy afternoon (nachos of course, too, and a larger than life coke). We got a monor league team here in town, as well as a Cooligate team, oh man, nothing like watching even the small ball games...

well, since American Football players rarely use their feet (when handling the ball), you can give it a better name, like Throwball or Handball. It'd make more sense too.

<< Football is the most popular professional sport in the United States in stadium or on TV. Futbol, however, is boring as hell on TV. >>

Oh dear lord that was funny.

Ed: By the say European Football and Rugby are in my top 4 favourite sports.

I don't care to rank them, but Hockey, US Football, Euro Football, and Rugby are my 4 favourites.

So don't take my laughing at the above as intended to be offensive I just thought it was funny.

Edit#2: Baseball in the most boring "sport" ever. And I understand the rules perfectly fine, it's just bloody boring.

I like soccer. I even played it in one of those junior leagues when I was a youngin'. But I still think its boring as hell to watch.

Best to watch on TV? - Basketball followed by (American) Football.

Best to watch at the arena? Tie between basketball and baseball.

Of course these are just my opinions, take them for what they're worth.

how can Brits, India-Indians, Samoans/Tonagans, etc stand to watch Cricket? It's the most boring sport to watch out there...and it's got the most airtime on TV in England! more than soccer, more than anything...

Personally, i think Hurling is the greatest field game, EVER. Anyone see one of these....freaking nuts, hockey, baseball, Rugby all rolled up in one!!!!

Don't get me wrong, baseball bores the hell out of me, too. Don't be misled by popular misconception, though. Baseball is not close to the major sports in TV viewership (and keep in mind that its attendance is skewed because MLB plays more games/season than anything else).

Baseball and soccer are not an appropriate comparison, anyway. Baseball is a game, not a sport. For the most part, baseball does not require physical fitness or athletic prowess. It is much better likened to golf, where strength, fitness, and endurance (save for the pitcher) is not a major requirement. Soccer, on the other hand, is a sport, regarless of its boredom factor.

soccer is actually a british term.

the reason its not popular is that there is only room for one boring sport in a geographic location, and by the time association football was getting popular in the 20s and 30s baseball had already been established. baseball is the pastime because thats exactly what it was used for, to sit outside and pass time on warm summer days up in the north east before air conditioning.

ummmmmm.... what are you smoking? running down fly balls, playing the hot corner, etc, take fitness and endurance. throwing it all the way to the plate takes strength. it might be some skinny guys up there but they are still athletes for the most part. yes there are some chunky guys in baseball (notably a pitcher who had a perfect game in 1998 and a guy who has won the batting title year after year) but theres a lot of guys that would physically intimidate most people on the planet.

i like playing almost any sport. well tennis i'm not to fond of, but you know sports where there is a lot of running involved i like. soccer i like playing. but damn its boring to watch. i too never understood the baseball thing. i mean its fun to play, but really its like worse than watching golf on tv.

I think basketball is the most popular sport, just because its so easy to get a game going, and there are courts everywhere, not to mention its inexpensive and not much equipment is needed.

Some say football (and i don't mean the rugby stuff you call football in the States) is boring...WTF, are you out of your mind, it's like the N1 game in the whole world man! Just watch some games on the European Champions League, that's some entertainement. Watching football on TV is also great, drink some with the buddies, the adrenaline really pumps up...and this s*it about the goooooooooal thing is typical only for South America and sounds funny and weird to me too
It's really SAD you guys in USA don't appreciate some games like football and go crazy for Nascar, which is probably one of the most boring races ever. Baseball and Rugby-Football whatever are ok, but Soccer-Football is KING.
