i was just gonna say that. The issue of "fighting words" in the context or racial slurs has been brought up by the supreme court and it was ruled 5 to 2 that IT IS NOT PROTECTED BY THE FIRST AMENDMENT

Good thing everyone always takes everything someone else says on here in the negative way. I've never heard of it, I wanted to read a law for myself.

Chances are, if anyone wanted to protest any law that forced them to pay a fine for cursing, they could beat it. Look at that guy that just beat his ticket for giving someone the finger.

Now why would anyone waste their time and money to appeal something to the fed courts? It would cost $$$ when they can just get the charges dismissed on a local level. I'm sure you'd pay the thousands of dollars it would cost to fight a case all the way to the USSC. Fact is SOME people have done that and the Feds or their state supreme court has agreed that it was protected. However, it hasn't been done in all states and is actually a law in most.

You're simply not right here. Profanity/racist speech, etc is disorderly conduct in many states. I was shocked myself after I did research on it. The cussing canoeist is one example of that. Sure, most of the time it is reversed, or someone is never charged with it, but it still exists.
