Vertex 2, 1 year operation, broke

Vertex 3 maxiops, BSOD constantly out of the box

Vertex 3 RMA, BSOD less, once in a while

Vertex 3 Today, still BSOD with latest firmware

Bought second Vertex 3 after RMA, same frequency of BSOD as first

Got a Vertex 4 a month ago, I gave in because of all the super speed charts thrown up on anandtech. EVEN though I promised myself I wouldn't ever buy another OCZ Product.

Today, Vertex 4, bios won't even post with it plugged in. Yes the ports are working, I tried my M4, x25m g2, and Intel 510 Ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh!!!!!!!!!!!

You my friend are seriously unlucky.

OCZ Modstream (or gamerextremes can't remember) x8 PSU. All still working in a network build I did years ago and still administer
OCZ 4Gb ram kit 6 years old.....still working in a old gamer server
Vertex 2 2 years old. Still running in an old laptop. Never updated the firmware
Vertex 3 x2 1 is brand new, and works great, other is 1.5 years old, and still runs great. No BSOD's
Vertex 3 Max IOPS 1 year old, still running in my brothers laptop. He reports no issues.

I won't deny the company has issues, but you are terribly unlucky.

I've only had two OCZ products a Platinum DDR2 kit that worked great and a OCZ Solid 2 120GB and both have been great.
With that said I just purchased Samsung 830 256GB and avoided OCZ because of all the problems I have heard. If I didn't mind futzing around with my hardware like I use to I wouldn't mind OCZ. Now I just don't have the time.

I'm didn't buy an Agility 3, I bought a bunch of vertexs.. whatever they did to make placate the performance of vertex into an agility, it seems' that longevity is greatly improved.

No, and it seems like the Vertex's had more than their fair share of FW problems. I didn't know squat about SSD's when I bought the Agility, I just lucked out, I guess... it was cheap and it was Black Friday. I was extraordinarily careful when I set it up and loaded it (it was my first computer build...) so maybe that had something to do with it. I don't sleep/hibernate at all.

I notice.. Random read /write is where the biggest snappi-ness change comes in. I could care less about sequential. The difference is NOT subtle. If you can't feel it, you probably need a faster CPU to keep up. :sneaky:

What app are you running that can push so many iops that a human being can notice a speed difference? You realize you are talking about noticing nanoseconds, right?

So Toyota has a massive drop in sales and loses tons of money because some lady falsely reported that the car's accelerator got stuck.

Yet OCZ drives die constantly and the company has increased sales.

Can someone call CNN? Tell them OCZ invaded some town in Syria or something.

You've never used Ram Drive, I can tell!!...

What I'm looking forward to is Ram Drive, in SSD format.

Vertex 3 here. No BSOD since the 2.15 firmware. That's been many many months ago.

This thread convinced me to put my new Vertex 3 in the hackintosh to avoid BSOD. Actually is an upgrade over a Vertex 2 even on Sata 2.

Sorry to hear of all the issues OP. I've been running OCZ SSDs for over three years now. So far I've used:

3x60GB Solid
4x30GB Vertex 1
1x60GB Agility
2x120GB Vertex 3
1x256GB Vertex 4

The only issues I've had were with the Vertex 3 drives not playing nice with the sleep function, probably because they were in a RAID 0 setup. It wasn't a huge issue though and the performance each generation has been great.

We're not talking about RAM drives, also I have a 2600k running in my system.

You still did not answer on what you're using the drive for that you think you can tell the difference.

Anyway what you want is a OCZ Revo drive. You'll want a Revo 3 model that supports TRIM. Unless you don't mind taking the risk on one of their IBIS drives, if you can fine one.

Or if you're willing to pony up for an Intel 910 series drive. Intel 910 drives cannot be used as a boot drive.

He might be talking about a batched process or something similar with 10's of thousands of small files being processed which could be quite significant.

Hi boris
I don't know if you're joking, but honestly, they would just give me another vertex 4 right? why on earth would I want another one, even for free. ...
Yes, I was joking about getting drive for free after failure on fifth SSD -sorry if that wasn't obvious.

As I see all that, the main point is: ssd is storage device and here, reliability is on first place. Making backups of sensible data is normal, but if that is needed do be done every five minutes (for "just in case"), then we can hardly speak about storage device anymore. SSD is ment to be used in the same manner as a normal HDD is and I don't want to think all the time about odds my SSD will fail (and data lost).
For me, speed is in second place. Because, honestly, in everyday use, even the slowest SSD's are very, very fast compared to HDD.

Just my 2c,
Bogdan

So now it's official, EVERY ocz product I've ever own has broken down prematurely.... What have I done to piss off the gods in this life or the past. :'''''(

Before these SSDs I had a broken OCZ gamerxtreme psu, and 2 dead OCZ ram kits.

Why would you keep going back and giving them your money for unreliable products again and again?

How many times do they have to slap u in the face?

Vertex 2 - 1.5 years [RMA]
Vertex 2 - 3 Months [RMA]
Agility 3 - still in packaging, should I sell or should I make it a secondary?
Agility 2 - 2 years and going strong
Samsung 830 - 6 months and counting...

I want to say I'm done with OCZ SSDs but the resale on my 120gb Agility 3 is so low I might as well throw it into my secondary...

I've had a couple SSDs go belly up.

Corsair Force 3 120 - BSOD then firmware update issues.
OCZ Petrol 64 - same as above - firmware issues.

Edit: So I own 2x OCZ 60gb Agility 3s, a OCZ Petrol 64, an OCZ Vertex 120, and a Corsair Force 3 120.

I'm the type that backs up and takes the risk I guess.

I have two OCZ SSDs, and they both work fine. I use an Agility 2 120GB in my laptop, and I used to use a Vertex 2 80GB as my OS drive in my desktop. I recently swapped to a Crucial M4 256GB because I needed more space.

I think my only complaint so far has been updating the drive's firmware. It was a command line application, which is mostly just an annoyance having to restart. The worst part was that it refused to work unless I was running in IDE mode instead of AHCI. It's only a quick BIOS change, but I still don't like doing it.

I guess it was mostly bad because I came from using all Intel SSDs, and their Toolbox is just too nice.

Going to anything other than Samsung from intel would probably be a letdown, toolbox will just spoil you. I love my m4's, but I do miss the toolbox...

@OP: I have a great deal on a lime green kia sorrento. It's a special edition. We've kept it for over a year, just for you...
