Vertex 2, 1 year operation, broke

Vertex 3 maxiops, BSOD constantly out of the box

Vertex 3 RMA, BSOD less, once in a while

Vertex 3 Today, still BSOD with latest firmware

Bought second Vertex 3 after RMA, same frequency of BSOD as first

Got a Vertex 4 a month ago, I gave in because of all the super speed charts thrown up on anandtech. EVEN though I promised myself I wouldn't ever buy another OCZ Product.

Today, Vertex 4, bios won't even post with it plugged in. Yes the ports are working, I tried my M4, x25m g2, and Intel 510 Ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh!!!!!!!!!!!

So now it's official, EVERY ocz product I've ever own has broken down prematurely.... What have I done to piss off the gods in this life or the past. :'''''(

Before these SSDs I had a broken OCZ gamerxtreme psu, and 2 dead OCZ ram kits.

Yes OCZ stuff can be damaged or defective more so then some other vendors.......

I agree with that as my dads OCZ RAM got botched..... I think if you own a OCZ you have to be ready on high alert that it can die any minute or year or month ,, ya know...

wow either you are an unlucky bastard or OCZ really sucks this bad.

I wonder maybe if many people having this issue falsely blame Windows?

Heh. Saturday I went shopping, because of an SSD sale:

OCZ Agility 3 120 GB: $55 after rebate
Intel 330 120 GB: $110 after rebate

I bought the Intel.

---

We'll see how it goes.

How did you manage that, did you sacrifice a small human baby for each drive? D:

You're the man, boris
I've heard one can get special discount from OCZ after fifth broken SDD -just in case you are interested
Sorry, but I can't help myself not to laugh. Btw. as many others, I had my Vertex-2 "experience" too. It lasted exactly one year and then all of sudden: not recognized by BIOS anymore

Greetings,
Bogdan

Still have 4x Vertex 3 120Gs in a raid working flawlessly since mar '11 and another in my laptop since sometime late last year.

Get a better controller.

Only fools buy OCZ and SandForce. Get the Crucial M4.
The only SandForce I'd consider at this point is the Intel, but I'm still a little suspicious of SandForce in general even with Intel.

I was thinking about getting the 330, but the new vertex 4 looked so fast....
IMO, truly for vast majority of the population (even AT geeks) if you're worrying about only SSD speed vs. cost when looking at a drive purchase, you're worrying about the wrong thing.

Not picking on you specifically, Boris, but, jeez.

I'm beginning to wonder if there isn't something else affecting your stuff... voltage irregularities, funky mobo... I don't know.

I've seen other 'I hate OCZ' posts here... understandably, considering what you/they have gone through. But I look at my SSD (7-month old Agility3) and others here (like lavaheadache and, I think, groberts has a stack of OCZ SSD's) that have relatively few problems with them.

I don't know...

I suspect it's a combination of both, but...

It's almost like the old days of DVD burning.

A: XYZ media sucks. It's not reliable.
B: Your system sucks. I have used XYZ media many times with my burner and it works fine.
A: Yeah but if I try MNO media it works fine, every time.
B: Get a better burner.

The problem here is that even if some hardware combinations do work with the OCZ SandForce drives, many do seem to have problems with them. One probable explanation for this is simply lack of proper QA. A drive that does not work properly in 25% machines is not a drive I want in my system, even if I have one of the other 75% that works fine with it. Same goes with optical media. I usually would want good media that works in general, not some specific media that only works with selected drives.

I have two OCZ SSDs, and they both work fine. I use an Agility 2 120GB in my laptop, and I used to use a Vertex 2 80GB as my OS drive in my desktop. I recently swapped to a Crucial M4 256GB because I needed more space.

I think my only complaint so far has been updating the drive's firmware. It was a command line application, which is mostly just an annoyance having to restart. The worst part was that it refused to work unless I was running in IDE mode instead of AHCI. It's only a quick BIOS change, but I still don't like doing it.

I guess it was mostly bad because I came from using all Intel SSDs, and their Toolbox is just too nice.

OCZ just sucks, my drive has had issues from day 1 also.

It wouldn't have taken me 3-4 products to realize I shouldn't buy from them anymore though...

Ive had my share of sandforce issues with a Mushkin Callisto Deluxe,

The only Sandforce drive I will use is Intel which is in my main rig and the rest of my systems get Samsung 830's

I've had a couple of problems with OCZ products, but not their ssds.

I had to RMA some OCZ Gold DDR3 once, and one of their PSUs went out on me, but the RMA process was fast and painless in my case.

I've had a Vertex (I guess 1, but back then there were numbers) that's been in use 24/7 without a hiccup for over three years now, a Solid 3 that I've been using with no issues for ten months, and two Agility 3s that have been seeing duty for the last three months or so without the slightest hint of a problem. Then again, I also have Intel G2, 320, Crucial M4, Samsung 830, and Kingston V100 ssds that have given me no problems, either. I'd chalk it up to clean living, but I'm not sure what that is.

Why would you keep going for speed that you're not really going to notice?

Samsung drives are fast, reliable, & come with software similar to Intel's toolbox. Plextor drives are really fast and starting to come down in price.

I'm didn't buy an Agility 3, I bought a bunch of vertexs.. whatever they did to make placate the performance of vertex into an agility, it seems' that longevity is greatly improved.

I notice.. Random read /write is where the biggest snappi-ness change comes in. I could care less about sequential. The difference is NOT subtle. If you can't feel it, you probably need a faster CPU to keep up. :sneaky:

I don't know if you're joking, but honestly, they would just give me another vertex 4 right? why on earth would I want another one, even for free.

Maybe if they give me an ES of vertex 5. or a 50% discount on a Revodrive
