had some issues with my corgi chewing on stuff early on but lately he's been pretty good, at least with the stuff he isn't allowed to chew on. He'll be 1 year old on June 1st. hard to believe I've had him for that long already.

He goes through toys and chews pretty damn quick though. He's not allowed to have any more stuffed animal type toys as he immediately starts to tear a hole in them and rip out the stuffing, then proceeds to tears up the rest of the outer shell.

He goes through rawhide chews like nothing. He doesn't seem to care for the plastic chew toys. Deer/elk antlers seem to last a good while though and he loves them.

I got a Kyjen Tail Chaser for him (basically a stick, a rope, and a sort of stuffed animal squeak toy on the end). he loves that but once he catches the toy, he doesn't want to let go and he just sits there and chews on it.

He loves to play fetch and I bought a bag of like 18 tennis balls on amazon for like $14.

Stuff thats supposedly chew-proof/indestructible/etc is not when it comes to my dog.

If you're getting the soft plush type beds I would definitely recommend having your pup only use it while in the crate for awhile (I take it he is crate trained). Dogs tend not to want to completely destroy their living quarters and he'll quickly pick up on how the bed is supposed to be used.

Our dog doesn't much like the softer beds, but was a huge fan of the elevated mesh ones!

I will say that they have a few annoying problems. One is that they stitch their name and logo into the bed. My dog loves to remove tags so of course the first one we owned he tore a corner to pieces. The bed also doesn't stay together as well as I'd like and the cut corners are a potential chew target. Dog loves it though!

For young pups we've never let them have full run of the house. If we can't keep an eye on them, our dog goes to his crate. Bad behaviour that isn't solved when young is the hardest to break them of. The easiest way to solve the behaviour is to make sure it never happens in the first place. No corrections necessary!

You want cheap dog beds? When you're driving by a couch on the side of the road, with a sign that says "free" - grab the cushions! That's 2 or 3 free dog beds, and when they start to smell like dog, toss them out & get another set.

(I've just been using cushions that I saved from 2 couches that we had, that I had kept in my garage for that purpose.)

If you have old sheets, simply wrap the sheet around the cushion & fasten on the bottom with some safety pins.

Not a bad idea, but make sure to check for fleas or other pests though!

My dog was able to chew a large hole in his bed. This is the corner where the label was. Don't waste your money if your dog likes to chew or has long nails this material isn't that durable.

Cats would be happy with an empty 12 or 24 pack cardboard container depending on their size. No need for a bed.

Yeah I'm pretty sure the specific type of dog bed is not the issue here. The dog is acting out, either from anxiety, boredom, hierarchy issues (anxiety), whatever. Does this behavior happen when you guys are home with the dog? Do you walk this dog regularly? Does it have an outdoor area where it can run and chew sticks and whatnot?

I have two large, very well-behaved dogs, and the best advice I can give you is to walk the dog regularly, make sure it gets outside time, reward good behavior (affection or a treat or both), punish bad behavior (scold, whack on the butt), and generally give it lots of love and affection when it acts in a quiet, submissive way, and ignore it when it acts otherwise.

I think actual "bad dogs" are pretty rare. They're almost always creatures of their environments.

Consider yourself lucky OP, when my old German shepherd was going through his destructive phase he ate the house, quite literally. He was shitting actual bricks from eating the damn walls, he didn't just nibble at them, he ate huge fucking chunks of them.

Really the best way to do it. Don't ever let them out of your sight unless they're crated. That way you get instant correction and they never learn the bad behavior.

My son's dog likes destroying things - has never destroyed anything we didn't want "destroyed" though. I probably spend $10 a week on dog bones. Then, there are the stuffed animals - she loves playing tug of war & keep-away. She plays with the other dogs. When 75 pounds of dog pulls one way, and 150 pounds of dog pulls the other way, the stuffed animal rarely wins. There are shreds of stuffed animal that she still plays with.

If it is not the bed it will be something else. The chewing stage sucks, but it only lasts a year or two. Crate them at night until the chewing stops and be ready to spend all your time helping them learn. Good luck.

Every time I read a thread like this (here or elsewhere), I think "nope, I'm not getting a cat/dog"... though I'm allergic to most of them, so one might think that the topic was pretty much settled already, however they are kind of cool.

I also like to think that I'm not unduly affected in what I'd like by something in the media (like in some programme there's a particular type of cat or dog, therefore they're cool), except Ghost in the Shell 2, I'd like a Bassett Hound, despite the numerous logical arguments against such a choice.

My dog did this to the first coolaroo we got for him. It's a real pain in the ass, and I've let coolaroo know that their logo stitched into the bed is really a bad thing to have on a dog bed. To solve this I have removed their stitched in logo myself so my dog is not tempted to chew it off.

There are better beds than this out there mind you, it just happens to be very affordable.

This company knows what they are doing, dogs aren't going to chew and edge that doesn't exist!

The OPs dog is a corgi correct? I've heard Corgi's can be a real pain because they are insanely intelligent and get bored easily. Bored dogs are dogs that get into trouble!

Now... cute photos of my pup!

i got glofish. they are quiet, dont shit on where i walk, dont eat up my things, and if i can get some mushrooms will look even more awesome.
