After the Watch Dogs fiasco, I have sworn to never preorder another Ubisoft game ever again.. But this latest Assassin's Creed Unity story trailer is making me want to pull the trigger on a preorder!

It looks like AC Unity will be by far the most heavily story driven AC game yet....and I LOVE the setting. Paris during the French revolution! :awe:

This game could really be something. It has all the right elements, including no last generation console baggage. This game is current gen and PC only!

It will be extremely system intensive, especially on the CPU with all the A.I and entities on screen.. In fact, Ubisoft recently revealed that AC Unity will be running at 900p on both the Xbox One and PS4, something which has caused a massive uproar on gaming websites.

Ubisoft blames it on the weak CPU in both consoles, but that explanation seems very strange to me. Usually CPU bottlenecks don't affect resolution unless you're running at lower resolutions. The higher the resolution, the greater the burden on the GPU. The CPU has no effect on a GPU's performance at high resolutions as long as the GPU itself is the limitation..

Whatever the case, AC Unity will be the first true AAA next gen title I believe.. That in and of itself deserves some attention in my opinion..

After the Watch Dogs fiasco *snip*

And the Far Cry 3 fiasco, and the AC4 fiasco, and the ongoing UPlay fiasco, and so on. I'll wait until the game is on GoG for 5 bucks on a Christmas sale years from its release just to avoid having to use the stain they call a service.

Why preorder? Just wait until day-of and get reviews. I'm still enjoying Mordor, but if ACU looks good then I may check it out too. Never been much of an AC fan but am loving Mordor, so maybe I'll warm up to them.

Edit: Just watched the trailer, graphics don't look that great.

Both Far Cry 3 and AC IV ran like butter on my rig after they were patched up and the drivers were optimized. But Watch Dogs on the other hand D:

I honestly think that Watch Dogs was a unique case. The length of time between patches is much longer than previous Ubisoft titles, which goes to show how deep and pervasive the issue is with this stuttering. The Disrupt engine was brand new, and was simply not up to the task of bringing Watch Dogs to six platforms. AC Unity should be different, because the engine is the same AnvilNext engine used in previous AC games, but overhauled for current gen..

The overhaul consists of native 64 bit, volumetric global illumination, rewritten renderer, physically based rendering, cloud shadows and a whole bunch of other stuff.. I honestly think this game is going to be the best looking game graphics wise to launch this year.. And from what I've read about it, it should be the most technically impressive game by far.

You're right of course. I wanted to punish Ubisoft for Watch Dogs by purchasing AC Unity when it's heavily discounted, ie Steam summer sale.. But that trailer looked damn good.

One of the problems with the AC games is that they are repetitive and have a weak story line; so inevitably, boredom sets in. But with AC Unity, it seems that the storyline is taking front and center.

Definitely Xbox One footage. Microsoft is Ubisoft's launch partner for AC Unity, so all the footage is done on either an Xbox One, or an Xbox One developer kit..

A gamebred PC should have much better looking graphics than what was seen in that trailer..

If you've ever spent much time playing around with resolution settings in games you would see that it clearly impacts CPU performance to varying degrees depending on the game. Seems strange, but it happens.

I am inclined to believe Ubisoft here. Having a CPU with a 1.6ghz ceiling is not good, and doesn't help make impressive games any easier no matter how many cores you have.

DICE also said they are already using 95% of CPU power on Battlefield 4 and and Sucker Punch states it is the main bottleneck in the PS4.

How many more need to say it? And yet I get flamed every time I bring up what a joke the CPU's are.

Never pre order anything.
^ These +1000. With "modern" AAA game design (where basically, the game isn't even properly finished until weeks/months worth of multi-GB patches later) I simply don't understand why people continue to pre-order anything having been burned multiple times in the past. All the "pre-order bonuses" are nothing more than glorified bribes which reward & encourage uninformed purchase designs vs waiting for the game to be released then making an informed choice. The only devs that need it (and rely on over-hype as a sales crutch) are those who fear negative reviews due to consistently poor release day quality control. The #1 & #2 reason pre-orders came into existence (people reserving a boxed copy so it won't physically sell out on launch day plus Amazon posting 1-day early so you'd actually receive it on launch day) aren't even relevant to digital distribution systems anymore. The modern "pre-order" environment is ultimately all about habituating the gaming community to "buy first, think later". (Watch Dogs being the perfect recent example...)

DICE also said they are already using 95% of CPU power on Battlefield 4 and and Sucker Punch states it is the main bottleneck in the PS4.
Indeed. In Cinebench, 8x 1.6-2.0GHz Jaguar cores benchmark roughly on par with a top end i3-4350/4360. And from what I remember, consoles are limited to using 6x of those for the actual game. And that's got to last "next gen" another 6 years...

Months before release:

"Never again will I get burnt by EA/Ubisoft/whoever releasing a half-finished, over promised game! Nobody pre-order, make them earn your purchase with a great game."

Weeks before release:

"Oh wow, they're turning things around with this entry. That last hype trailer removed practically all doubts I had. Nothing else releasing in the same time frame interests me, probably going to have to pre-order now."

Day of release:

"Anyone else getting weird crashes to desktop? And what's up with the AI? They said a fix will be in the first patch, didn't they? I didn't pay $50 for a broken, buggy mess of a game! They better fix these issues ASAP."

Months after release:

"Game was OK, but it's come a long way since release and I would wholeheartedly recommend picking it up on sale. I probably should have waited to pick it up. I'll never pre-order from EA/Ubisoft/whoever again."

Never pre order anything.

While true, I was able to pre-order Mordor and its season pass with coupons and steam sale for almost the same price as it would be at retail.

So back to this, I semi-tempted too but probably will wait as DA:I will be out at the same time

Unless I can find a deal

The AC games have never interested me much but I did enjoy brotherhood. Been playing AC: Black Flag and it is a fantastic game. The pirate/mayan theme is excellent and it just a straight up awesome pirate game with some AC playstyle on land. Unity doesn't interest me at all but I can't wait to find a good deal on Mordor I think I'll love that.

I enjoyed AC4 too but I'm not budging from no preorder rule, not even for Witcher 3, there is no way I would go back on that rule for lesser games.

Not saying that Unity is a bad game, chances are that I'll enjoy it as much as AC4 or more. Ubi is still slicing content for DLC's and preorder bonuses and they are talking about it in the teaser videos they released. No way I'll support that practice. Even if game quality is beyond any doubt already, preordering games sends the wrong message to the publishers, especially the ones that premeditatedly sliced up content to serve it as pre and post launch DLC's.

This is a good explanation why pre orders are bad:

Watch Dogs is still garbage is the sad thing. Garbage gameplay and still performs like a pig with stuttering.

Rarely pre-order anything. I pre-ordered GTA:V (physical copy), got it delivered to my house on the release date and got a BLIMP to fly around in... OK, the blimp was utterly pointless, but it was still convenient having it delivered. That said, pre-ordering games is like using apostrophes for pluralization; it's almost always incorrect and if you never do it you'll be better off than if you do it too frequently.

Eh, I bought Mordor for $27 about a week ago. No need to preorder
