Thugsrook, you goin XP? Check this link, it's probably old news and I don't know how reliable it is, but it's interesting stuff about the OS's.

Hmmm... I have my voltage set to 1.65v in bios now... it's reading as 1.72 in Asus probe. I guess i'm pushing it now? Aw, man...

Do you think this applies to overclocked Tualatins also? Is any .13 micron core vulnerable to early deaths from 1.7v+ overclocking? What about the T-bred, some of those guys are juicing them to 2.0v or more!

im running a 2.0a@2604 (should be 2600 i dont know where asus does their math ) at 1.7v for well over a month and a half now, i really think you will only hurt the CPU at way out of spec voltages (1.90+), and dont forget these are supercooling systems there are about 4 dozen more problems added to the mix with supercooling, everything from condensation to electromigration, to 12v rail dives, to ........

And how do you think theyre going to tell you O/Ced? eh?

They're not. If you're overclocking though you should take the risk on yourself. If you try to claim warranty afterwards that's stealing. I would think that your concious would be the only safeguard that Intel needs.

This is what I've said all along, I can't claim to understand all the details, but the threat is real when ocing any .13 micron processor, including the Tualeron and the T-Bred XP's. 1.65v is the absolute limit on how much juice a .13um CPU can take. You just cannot go any higher, that is all there is to it. Im glad more and more people are making notice of this.

A 2.4 cooked after only 3 weeks... OUCH, that had to hurt

BTW, If you play the OC game and toast a CPU in the process, you should be man or woman enough to take it on the chin and count it as the cost of an education

Intel's 2.80GHz Pentium 4 part may not see the light of day because Windows doesn't like it.

That article is a load of shyte. If you overclock to very high speeds with high core voltage, don't be surprised if your system is not always 110% rock solid.

Everyone said the K6-III's bootup and shutdown problems were AMD related when it turned out to be Windows related. The same may be true of the current rumors. Just wait a few months and we'll know as soon as Intel launched the 2.8GHz.

I don't know how much of this case is true....BUT!!!

In win98 the first edition I did run into a case once above 2.46ghz no matter voltages, mem timings the system would boot fine and run all day but simple load programs, run programs and file transfer slowed way way down....

Installed winxp and away I was running to current 2.736ghz now....

OS's can obviously limit somethings....whether it was do to high fsb or overall clock speed...something was up....

My rule of thumb has always been don't use a Vcore higher than the highest shipping proc in a processor family (Like 1.85V in the .18u Athlons)

I figure if AMD sets it that high, it must be relatively safe.
