My DangerDen setup is a RBX block, Hydor L35 pump, BI Xtreme radiator w/ two Sunon 120's(1 blowing into it, 1 sucking out), a 5 1/4" bay res. and Tygon tubing. I'm running a new retail 3.2 Northwood on a IC7-G with 2 GB of RAM.
My problem is that I haven't been able to start goosing this chip yet until I can figure out why I'm running 118F idle and upward of 145F-150F under load. I use both the temp. reading in the BIOS and the Abit system monitor app. and they're consistently close, so I trust that's pretty close to what I'm running, short of checking with a thermistor.
Does air in the system cut down on overall efficiency? If so, what the best way (and with what device) to bleed a WC setup? I'm very sure of the water block/CPU mating. I've redone it a couple of times now to make sure. And I do have a slight bit of Prestone in the water. My thinking was that the supposed "high end" coolants on DD's site and sold elsewhere is just overpriced marketing and that any coolant is better than plain distilled water.
How about shrouds between the fan and radiator on both sides? Is that a noticeable temp. drop when/if using shrouds? And thermal pastes? In case I want to try re-mounting it aaaagain...is there a definite
thermal paste leader for water blocks. I have a old tube of AS2, which I used. But I also have a tube of Ceramique which I don't mind trying if that truly is the problem of why I'm running so much hotter than what a WC setup should run. Hell, even hotter than what air cooling runs.
All constructive thoughts on the subject are extremely appreciated! Thx!
