DAOC: Honest Thoughts

Just tell me, is this game worth installing and paying for? I bought it a when it first came out but wasnt all to impressed. I play EQ right now, not as often as I like, about once a week. I was wondering if I should give it up and start up DAOC. Do people twink alot? Is PVP well blanced? Is the gameplay all right? Can you solo in the game or does it require a group to get by?

Bah, having to both BUY the software and PAY to play online is such bullshyat. And since half of the time you RUN AROUND the landscape, which is untolerably slow, they're cashing in while you watch your pathetic little character run up and down hills!!

so no one has actualy played the game? I guess people ould rather complain about paying extra to play the game then actualy try it out for the first free month...

But now that i have started the game i would like to know if the RvR is balanced at all, everyone tells me that Midgrid rules in RvR but then again so do Rangers.... any thoughts?

I haven't actually played, but my friends did.... for about 2 weeks. Then they all came back to Asheron's Call.

The graphics look nicer on DAOC, but the game play looked horribly slow. Also, the Relic part of the game isn't working yet and that's the best reason to play in the first place.

I was playing it fulltime up until the EQ expansion came out in December. I think the game has potential. They are studying the imbalances that exist in RvR combat between the Realms. Since I am currently only level 20 I did not really get to see much of the RvR side of the game but the PvE side was fun but a bit too easy in some cases at the lower levels. If you like casters then the Albion Realm is the way to go. Rangers in Hibernia are a lot of fun and quite powerful with archery. With practice and a good bow and arrows you can have a mob down to less than 1/3 health by the time it is in melee range. If you already own it I think it is definitely worth a look if EQ is not holding your attention.

I played for about a month and realized I wasn't really a fan of the genre so I stopped playing. I liked it the best though out of the ones I tried.

Tried it, didnt like it, went back to EQ.

They have some nice ideas, and it looks pretty good, but it isnt for me.
It just doesnt involve me like EQ does.

I've been playing since release and while it can be fun in some aspects, I've come to the conclusion that it really needs more work.

-Many classes are simply unfiunished
-Realm vs realm combat is well unbalanced as hell.. Currently if you are a archer class you are a god while other classes suffer from not being able to kills squat.
-Each realm is rather small, so you are always traveling around the same spots.
-Once you reach level 40, there is really not alot to do. Quests dry up etc.
-Also as mentioned above, the RvR aspect is not complete. Keeps can be taken but there is no real reward for taking them.


All in all it's a good game and has a lot of stuff going for it, but it has a lot of minor flaws that should be fixed. If they ever get corrected the game will be great

Tried it, didn't like it much, the character animations were better than AC (imho) but the landscape was slow to render and it was soooooo boring running around trying to find stuff to kill.


After having seen the movies for AC2 though, man, I can't wait for that! I sure hope they are actual game scenes, if so, it's gonna be sweet!
