Just got back from Best Buy B&M where I picked up Dark City for $5.99+ tax. Great movie, the dvd is definitely worth 6 bux. According to www.dvdtalk.com the deal should be nationwide.

Is it just the Dark City DVD? I thought I saw more DVDs at that price the last time I went there . . ..

I think there's whole list of $5.99 dvd's there but Dark City is the best of the bunch.

I thought Dark City was MUCH better than The Matrix.

Not only did the Matrix "borrow" much of its dream/reality plot fro Dark City, but it even borrowed its opening sets. The bit at the start where Trinity is running from the cops was shot on the Dark City sets -- hence the gothic feel.

I don't think the The Matrix can compete with Dark City on most fronts. DC is just a better movie, and I honestly believe that without bullet-time, The Matrix would not be thought of so highly (while it was original, they dumped the concept in the second film...in other words, it got old). The look and feel of DC is much better, and really draws the viewer in. The same director and cinematographer that did The Crow, Alex Proyas and Dariusz Wolski, respectively, also directed DC. If you enjoyed anything about that film (esp., with respect to the look), you might like DC (Dariusz Wolski also did Pirates of the Caribbean if you need a recent reference).

It also has a great first shot as the camera moves in through a window. Right then, you know this is something different. If you're a film buff, the style alone -- lighting, sets, camera, etc. -- will have you watching it multiple times.

Hey, it's $6. Blockbuster and Hollywood Video charge, what, $27 to rent a movie?!?! If you're still on the fence, I'll throw out a "cheap thrill" bone...two words:
"Jennifer Connelly"

Well, remember that the French wonder dude Michel Gondry did the first "Bullet Time" 3D film sequence in the mid-1990s, and popularized it in a liquor commercial and a Rolling Stones video. Then the Blade movie did the Bullet Dodging slo-mo thing. Although they got to it late, the Matrix made it look pretty sweet though.

She is HOT in this movie! Well, she's my fav. actress, so I'm a bit biased, but the way she's dressed in this movie . . . there needs to be a drool emoticon somewhere here . . ..

And it's a great flick too! I totally concur with everyone else here= Dark City>Matrix

Dark City = Cult Classic. I love this movie, too and even though I don't buy as many dvds these days as I used to, this is one of the few worth adding to my collection. Very stylish and well done. Thanks for the tip, OP!

Dark City is badass, I paid like $15 for it and it was definitely worth it.

It is a more cult like movie, as it was never a big hit in the movie theatres.

And Jennifer Connelly was soooooooooooooooo sizzling hot back then, she had the right curves and the everything. I don't like her all skinny now. She was perfect then, should have kept that image!

I thought they really rushed the ending a bit. That's my major gripe about this movie: the pacing.

Agreed -- awesome movie, Jennifer Connelly is SO hot, but the ending SUCKS. If not for the horrible ending this would be in my top 5.
