Darkest of Days

I just played through the demo for Darkest of Days. Pretty cool game with an interesting concept. Basically you are snatched up during colonial times and are trained to jump through time to save key people in history. The demo takes you through the Civil War but the retail game will go to roman times, WW1, WW2, Vietnam, etc. You fight with their weaponry for a bit, then get futuristic guns.

give it a shot. I think i might buy it retail.

It's ...ok. The concept is very cool [time travel] but the quality of the game engine seems a bit amateur [8monkey did develop their own engine]. You only get 1 area to run around in and it's VERY linear [ie: invisible walls prevent you from true exploration].

I agree. Cool concept, but too linear.

I tried this game. Kind of hokey but I didn't think it was that bad.

Duh it's linear, YOU'RE MESSING WITH TIME ITSELF!

It has to be linear so the timeline is intact.

lol... er.. the path from end to start is very linear. I want to be able to run around the field in whatever direction until I hit a VISIBLE object that prevents me from moving - not some invisible force field.

Based on the demo, it feels really CoD/Consolish. It's a good idea, but it's not done very well. I hope they try again and open it up a little more.

Don't you get superior weapons compared to those of the civil war? If that's the case don't you basically roll everyone in your sights?
