Canada will most likely let you in pretty easily. Re entering the US will be a problem. I wouldn't recommend "testing" this while on vacation unless you fell like wasting at the very least a few hours.

Half the fun of traveling is experiencing different ways of life and different cultures.

Uh....you can find many different cultures right here in the us - even places where being an english speaker will put you in the minority

you can get them in time, you just have to pay the expedited fee.

actually maybe you can't because you don't have a passport office near you. when i needed mine expedited i went to the passport office in DC and they said come back in 2 days to pick it up. if you have proof of travel they will be sure to get it to you in time. you can literally go the day of travel and walk out with it.

EDIT:

i too will never understand people who don't want to leave the country and experience life outside of the states. just something i can't really comprehend. that's basically my entire family as well. other than my brother's honeymoon and my sister's honeymoon, they have never left the country. oh actually my sister went to europe but it was for work.

there are a lot of nice places to see in the states as well though, but as mentioned, half the fun of going out of the country is seeing completely unfamiliar ways of life. my buddy just went to vietnam by himself for 11 days and it sounded incredible.

because a majority of americans (%64 as of 2013) have never left the country

almost nobody in my extended family has a passport, or has ever desired to travel outside of ohio let alone the US

That's a really sad statistic. It does explain a lot about our national xenophobia though.

I hate the assumption that people don't travel abroad because they just don't like foreigners... as if there's no other reason they could possibly have to not travel abroad. Most of the stories I've seen point to financial reasons as to why people don't traveled abroad, which I believe. A foreign vacation costs a pretty penny depending on what you want to do, and if you have a whole family to pay for or not. I've been to Japan twice, but if it wasn't work related I would never EVER have spent that money just for a limited time trip. Nevermind the fact that international travel means a long time in an airplane, which I don't care for either.

The US is gigantic, and has a lot to do. Just sticking with national parks I'd probably be fine for the rest of my life since I don't vacation that much. I just don't like airports and flying, regardless of if it's merely back to visit the family in Colorado or flying around the globe I simply don't care for it. At least if I stay in the US it's a quick flight.

He isn't far from Chicago, and they have an office there. No way I'd do all that work just to go to Canada this weekend though - it is close enough you can go another time.

I agree - I think much of it is financial and another big portion is people are afraid of language barriers and that they might get stuck in a country where they're completely lost and can't get help.

I was fortunate in that I got to travel to Asia, Europe, and South America for work and discovered it really isn't that hard traveling internationally. Yeah, it is harder than going to Yellowstone or something like that, but it isn't too bad and you can see a lot of cool things. I've since been to Europe 4 times on my own dime and we're planning another trip this summer.

It has a light taste with rose after taste. Smells a little skunky. Kinda similar to a Belgian beer. I like it, certainly worth a try.

the curse of beer bottled in clear or green bottles, it's almost always skunky

When I was younger, there was nothing I wanted to do more than travel internationally. And I did. I went to Scotland, Spain, Peru, and Ireland in about a 4 year timeframe. I saw amazing things in each country. I have the means to travel even more now, but I've lost interest in it.

It's possible. But for me personally, as a single man, there's very little appeal to visiting a country by myself. I know some guys are very outgoing and can travel by themselves and have a great time, but that's really not me. When I have a girlfriend, I like to take shorter, less stressful trips. One thing I'd like to do someday is have a cool house in a cool city and host AirB&B travelers. I think that would be a cool way to meet people from different places.

All that said, there are a few places I'd like to see. Purbeast mentioned Vietnam, Costa Rica , Buenos Aires, and the French Riviera also come to mind.

I know you are half-joking -- but this is true.

See the world people, the US has a lot to see but that doesn't mean its not worth exploring elsewhere.

AFAIC money spent on plane tickets is money thrown away.

What a waste

I'm pretty nearsighted, so I can get a better view of many things watching them in a documentary on my 50" TV or viewing a web page on my 24" monitor than I could in person from behind a rope line or fence.

I could afford to travel, but for me it's not worth the effort.

There's nothing in the US like the UK, let alone China or Brazil. It's not just the language, but the entire culture and society that surrounds it. The US may be "gigantic" but it's still only a small part of the world.

Or I can "visit" Japan from the comfort of my couch by watching Chushingura, High and Low, The Eel and Non Non Biyori. With subtitles I can even hear the proper language yet understand what they're saying.

Did you count the pores?????

You should come to Canada and catch a musky.
Your dollar is high.

I would love to do a fishing trip in Canada some time. I do a bunch of fishing in Northern Michigan though.

The dark green color is the give away to that fish being a pike. Muskies are a bit lighter in color and the spots are smaller.

I have a summer home on Lake of The Woods Morson Ontario.
I've been Muskie fishing for over 60 years.
A taxidermists apply varnish and the skin colour darkens.

I don't land northerns or jackfish regardless of size, they are to dam slimy and make a mess on the bottom of the boat.D:

That looks like an easy lake to get lost on! Lots of islands.

I normally just pop the hook out of a pike next to the boat as well. Lots of nasty teeth on those guys and I don't like netting fish I don't plan on keeping for a meal.
