And to think if someone had just talked to him, he would have stopped, put on pants, and went home.
I don't know about you, but I generally get calmer after I take off my pants, but some people are just different.

There it is...You identify with the criminal. Who is the problem again? See, I don't identify with the police or the criminal element, therefore I don't have an issue with them taking this guy down _ ALIVE_ to stop a violent rampage.
Full time line.
Started with robbing a 7-11. Then proceeded to set fire to a church that was occupied. Broke into a home and stole a car. Drove to Walmart and stole a .30-30 and ammunition. Then when encountered by police he refused to drop his weapon several times, walked away, stopped then pointed his rifle at the officers repeatedly. He then started moving towards fully staffed businesses randomly firing into the air and pointing the weapon at his head.
Having a hard time feeling bad on this one. He was a threat based on the totality of his actions. Not just what is on that video.
That the guy lived is a pretty stupid point to continually bring up. It's only pure chance that he lived and that was obviously not the intent. When you gun it to hit someone with your car the intent is clearly to splatter meat off the bumper.
It's also pretty stupid to make the point that this was less dangerous than shooting him when the officer had little idea what he was driving into. This is exactly how innocent bystanders get hurt in these situations. One hero thinks he's Batman and decides to save the day on his own.
It's really stupid that so many believe that all's well that ends well. Lowering expectations so far diminishes the respect that the job deserves. But, I guess people do get the government they deserve and if all they expect in real life is what happens in video games then the retards are going to be as happy as they can be.
True, if there was a person on the other side, that person may have ended up shot dead. Considering that the bad guy had not actually been previously shooting at anyone(?) and there were some police who could see the other side of the wall (who could take action based on knowledge) I'd roughly equate the chance of dying from getting smashed by a car with the chance of dying from getting shot by the bad guy.
It's not a reasonable argument because the smashing cop did not (very unlikely) know what he was driving into, he was disregarding his coworkers, and chose a bad location to make his move. He did not act based on knowledge but rather pure chance that he was not causing more harm than necessary.
