I just built a Windows Home Server with an P2.8ghz D CPU/Asus Mobo/Gigabite LAN. I had a few of my local Vista folders like "downloads" relocated to a shared Home Server folder. What I was noticing was any exe file I would download like CPU-z / ccleaner , etc would error out when I tried to run it on my client Vista machine. Now if I downloaded locally the issue was not there. It seemed to corrupt every download I made from my client PC to the shared location on the server. So I relocated my downloads folder back to default and things are working fine since my downloads are stored locally. So that's what I first noticed in this last week. Almost forgot about the issue but something similar started to happen in the next situation.
Currently trying to rip video over to the home server and have had lots of issues with pixelation. So I decided to rip locally to a storage 320gb drive and both of my ripping options I have been using now are working great if I rip locally. No pixelation at all. So I take out my 320gb storage hard drive that just was ripped too and installed it into the home server. The ripped file still plays back fine back over the network with no pixelation but then if I rip to the same 320gb hard drive but over the network there is pixelation again.
So from what I can see is anything saved or ripped over the network to the home server seems to have alot of issues. Now using a portable hard drive I can rip or save locally on my client PC to this drive, I then will plug it into the Home Server and I can playback those files through the server on my client PC correctly but I can't save files from my client PC over the network and onto that drive without errors or video issues. So only files transfer / saved to the network and then attempted to be played have a issue.
Ideas??
