Data migration issue

I have a new PC.

I also have an old PC.

I want to transfer the drives from the old PC to the new PC.

Old PC drives are 2 750GB RE3 WD's in RAID0.

Old PC controller is JMicron JMB36X(reportedly, source: Device Manager).

New PC controller is JMicron JMB36X(reportedly, source: Device Manager).

Access to an external hard drive of sufficient capacity is not available(even though I must have asked like 10 people, half of whom make their business in the IT field, but that another completely unrelated and utterly weird story).


Data MUST absolutely NOT be lost in any conceivable scenario.

Please advise me on how proceed.

Running a RAID 0 configuration without some form of backup means you are willing to lose all your data if one of the drives has an issue. It seems odd that you don't have some form of backup since you are running a RAID 0 configuration. To guarantee you don't lose data, I recommend you get one large drive (external or internal) and run a backup. There are no other ways to guarantee that no data is lost.

Yes well... I'm just a home user with a flair for the dramatic.
My most important projects and data are not very large and have already been transferred with the help of a thumb drive.
However since the other data on the drives, while not "critical" per se, still represents a significant time investment, I would rather not have it go to waste.

yep, buy an external HD and backup. That's about the only way to ensure the preservation of your data.

I echo the above sentiments. Buy a large USB3 storage drive and backup your data. Then look at migration. Even the best plans by the best people can go tits up.

Even if it's just a major time boof to get the data back, you are absolutely playing with fire if you're running 2 drives with "important" data in raid 0. My wife has her pictures on 2 separate external hd's plus on plus backed up on an interal hd as well. And we're planning to migrate the "internal hd" backup to my mom's house later this year in case of a fire.

That'd have to wait AT least till march(i.e. 2 more paychecks at least).

Which means that I'm basically fucked now.

go get a spindle of DVD's and burn the data 4.7GB after painful 4.7GB.

The only answer is to back up your data before you do the migration. If you don't want to burn dvd's and you don't have money for an external drive, then you need to not perform the migration. You could look at an online backup service, but I don't know of any that provide 1.5 TB of space for any resonable price.
