My original setup was a 400GB HDD with Windows XP as the OS and a lot of data on it along with a 300GB HDD with purely data. All the data and the XP install were on the same partition.
I bought a new HDD today (SATA 320GB if it matters) and installed it in the PC. The original XP install detected it fine and all was well.
Then I did something stupid. I installed Windows XP (non-SP2 install, SP2 has been installed after) to the new HDD without removing the old drives first. The 300GB with purely data made it through unscathed and has all the data on it and is detected by the new install, the 400GB drive is now showing as an unformatted 127GB drive. The drive that it was installed to is also showing as 127GB but is, of course, formatted as it has Windows XP installed. I've loaded an Ubuntu LiveCD and gnome partition manager shows the space on the 400GB HDD as unallocated as well.
My question is this: is there any way to get the data that was originally on the 400GB HDD back?
