Data Recovery. Software

I recently had a backup disk lose its formatting and for the first time in my life (long time) have had to deal with losing crucial data.

I tried to find free software but anything available was just not good enough, did not see drive or disk, or simply did not function well.

I tried a few that were on trial offer but still not good and the only one that came close to finding all my files was getdataback which like all of these would not actually recover the files until you paid.

My question is what is the best recovery software within sensible price guidelines ie - 20-40.

I used getdataback very effectively to save almost all my data.

I am intrigued, how do you "fix" the master boot record?

from the recovery console, booting from your WXPSP2 disk, you type fixboot and there you are!

For recovery data, i like File Scavenger, but its very expensive: http://www.quetek.com/prod02.htm

I also like file scavanger, I recently (just last night in fact) had a hard drive lose its data, and file scavanger was able to recover just about everything. The program is worth its weight in gold as far as I'm concerned.

I use OnTrack DataRecovery Pro. But it's way expensive - but great!

In the end "getdataback" did the job very well for me and I found it very easy to use.
Ordered online from UK 119 dollars, about 65 pounds, seems fair enough price for such a save and did not have to pay any taxes.

This is the price for the package that handles fat and ntfs.

Check out Acronis - It backs up everything including Windows and hidden files.

Backup is not the same as data recovery.
