Is it possible to share data partitions between 32-bit and 64-bit Windows OS. I want to have on dual boot;
Windows XP Professional SP3 32-bit and
Windows Vista Business 64-bit

Separate system partitions and common data partitions (NTFS) to share all my files between the two OS. Is that okay? Will both OS get proper read/modify/write permissions to all files on the shared data partitions irrespective of where the file was created.

TIA

I never had any problems when I did this with my Windows 7 64-bit partition and my XP 32-bit partition. So no, you should not have any problems.

It depends on how your permissions are set up. You can get issues with it telling you the folder belongs to someone else but then you can just add yourself to the users list, but it gets annoying if you have a lot of folders used between both OS.

You may end up fighting with permissions a bit, but that's not too hard to fix.

Okay, thanks. I'm going to give it a try. Now which goes first during install. I assume doing vista first and then adding xp. right?

No, you should install MS OSs in the order MS released them.
That way the newer one will see the older one.

You can do it the other way, but the older OS (XP) will step on the newer OS's (Vista's) boot loader. You will then have to mess with boot loaders to get then both to boot.

And why not Windows 7? Now would be a good time.

Thank you. I'll start with XP. I cannot afford Windows 7 now. Plus the older ones are pretty functional, so why buy another OS.
