Just saw a promo and that's exactly what it looked like. "Going around the world to catch a con man"

BRILLIANT!

God I hate Nigerians. I don't usually tend to hate such large groups, but I hate Nigerians and their filthy, smelly country.

I think it happened right around the same time my ninth (literally) E-Bay auction ended with some random Nigerian bidding 300 dollars above whatever it was was worth and sending me some screaming, rambling letter about how his son needed it to cure AIDS with back in his home country.

They apparently teach classes in Nigerian Night School on how to rip off people online (again, not joking), which is pretty amazing considering the same form letter has been in use for 90% of their scams for like 10 years. Stupid Nigerians.

I lived with a Nigerian man in Spain, he was pretty cool. I did not like his cooking though.

More like stupid idiots falling for their scams.

We got a genius here.

Did you even read my post? When they bid on an E-Bay item THERE IS NO WAY TO STOP THEM. They win the auction and you have to either relist it and pay money out of your pocket, or do a second chance offer to the next highest bidder and hope he hasn't already bought something else.

Congrats on your feeble, baby-horse-standing-up-for-the-first-time attempt at humor, however.

Here ya go...

March 20

Tuesday, March 20, 8 p.m.
Chris Hansen travels to London for a hidden camera investigation on the widespread problem of email scams that originate in West Africa -- often referred to as 419 scams, named for the Nigerian law that makes them illegal there. Tune in to see how Americans are getting ripped off in these email cons and how Dateline has now turned the tables in "To Catch a Con Man.
This is going to be gooood...

Where did you see any mention of eBay in my post?

If your "stupid idiots falling for their scams" comment wasn't aimed at me or anyone who's been scammed by them on E-Bay (which is where at least half the scams are occurring these days), then obviously I'll go ahead and retract that statement. You bolded my statement when you replied, and when I said "stupid Nigerians" I was referring to the E-Bay types.

I love finding the Nigerians on dating websites. I specifically message them so I can toy around with them. It's also kind of fun to see how long it takes for them to mention about a sick relative (usually their mother, it's easier to play off the emotion of a mother (since you came from inside her body) rather than a father). "Ohh I need $500, don't you love me?" It's kind of funny .

I've often wondered why the UN just doesn't advocate cutting off all telecommunications to Nigeria because the government does nothing to stop this.

I bet they'd clean it up in record time if that happened.

People that fall for the emails are idiots. The EBay thing is a different issue but you did mention the form letters in your post.

To Catch a Predator is one of my favorite shows on TV, so I hope this is just as good.

I love the show too. But I seriously can't stand Chris Hansen. I wish someone would just punch him in the face.

Do the Nigerians have USA accounts too? I block all foreign bidders out of my auctions.

====================================

Adding buyer requirements

By selecting certain buyer requirements, you can manage the types of buyers you'd like to have bid on or buy your items. While this may reduce your exposure to buyers who might make transactions difficult or more expensive, or with a history of Unpaid Item strikes, it will also reduce the overall number of potential buyers you'll have for your items. For this reason, you should think carefully before using buyer requirements to block buyers.
To add buyer requirements to your listings:

1. In My eBay, under the My Account column, click the "Preferences" link.
2. In the Seller Preferences section, click the ?Edit? link. The Buyer Requirements page opens.
3. Select your buyer requirements. These include blocking buyers who:

* Are registered in countries to which you don't ship

Yeah, they're generally registered in the US. I block people from other countries and people who don't have Paypal as well, it usually doesn't work.

The "form letter" I was referring to is the one they send you after they won the auction, about how even though they're in the US, the item needs to be sent to Nigeria because it's for their son/wife/tribal shaman/whatever.

I was speaking in generality...

I'm pretty sure most of the Nigerian scams are occuring through email, and not eBay anyway.
