It's not fair to judge people who have it but, seriously, people should get tested and be honest with people before giving them a life long ailment over 20 minutes of fun. Or, in my case, 3 minutes of fun and 3 hours of crying and apologies!

Have a friend with HPV, it has really been hard for him, especially since he gave it to a girl (unknowingly) that he really did like.

How do they test and are the results reliable?

As I understand it, herpes can and and I think usually does go into remission. If and when it does, I think you will have no symptoms and you are very much less apt to be communicable.

the test can be done with your doctor or planned parenthood clinics if you're uninsured (they work on a sliding scale based on income). The results are fairly reliable - it's a good idea to go once a year if you're sexually active.

you had to ask, but they jam a metal rod up your penis, press a button and the rod splitters up and they pull it out and it drags across the skin to get a sample.

I ALMOST FAINTED JUST TYPING IT. Never want to go through that.

Also, HSV1 can be spread sharing utensils (not just lollipops). So if you have a guest with coldsores, disinfect that stuff! Or just accept that you'll get herpes one day...

Back to the OP - I think a dating service (or a tag on current dating services) for people with STDs is a great idea - keep them out of the regular gene pool! I mean that with no disrespect, but it's better if people are honest with each other. The problem is, so few people are.

As short as your post was, I simply skimmed it--and the post that you quoted--and assumed they were in relation to herpes rather than HPV. Obviously, I should've read more closely.

Edit: And just for the sake of completeness, the numbers for HPV that I could find also place its prevalence at about 25%, with estimated lifetime prevalence of something like 75%.
