My daughter wad playing at playhousedisney.com when I left. I come home a few minutes later and I see a blue screen tht said somthiing like win32.sys error or something similar. I try ctrl alt del and nothing. I try to do a hard reboot with the power switch and nothing. I than have to pull the power cable to get it to turn off. A few minutes later, I plug it back in and I get nothing. It turns on, but that's it. nothing even gets to the screen, it just sits there. I then remove the NIC, sound, video cards and unplug the CD, and same thing, nothing. I swap the memory cards and same result. I then put in a win2k boot disk and it never makes it to the floppy (never saw the little green light on the floppy come on). I have a MSI K7T Pro2A board and the LED readout on the board is all red dots. On the key, that means "System power on". Any ideas? Bad board? Thanks....

System:
MSI K7T Pro2A
512 MB Ram
Duron 800
Soundblaster Live
HP CD-RW
WIN2K Pro SP2
DiamondMax 32MB video

Dan:

I unplugged the PC and then switched the jumpers from 1 - 2 to 2 - 3 as instructed in the manual. I then switched them bacck to 1 - 2 and plugged it back in. I then started the PC back up by pressing the power button, which I thought was a good sign. But, it ends up doing the same thing. Any more ideas? Thanks...

put the hard drive in another PC to make sure the hard drive still works and the data is there...

I'd also suggest that if you can get another main hard drive, try to put it in the duron 800 PC and see if it will boot... (worth a try)

Before I go and buy another MB/CPU, any chance this is a power supply problem. I am assuming not since it does power up. Just grasping at straws before I spend more money. :frown:

I guess you have investigated the keyboard as a potential problem? I just powered off and powered on with my keyboard disconected. The old systems used to complain, but mine didn't. I think the keyboard is still hardwired to an IRQ. It may be a long shot, but I had to ask.

There is your problem. You did nothing wrong, that board is a POS. If your lucky, in a couple of days the system will work again - for no reason.

Did you try a new keyboard? Surprising to say a bad keyboard can cause errors in key SYStem files.

After the kids got through with my daughter's PC it was doing all kinds of crazy things. I found a Burger King give-away CD mini-disc in the floppy drive.

Homeowners may cover the breakdown if you blame it on a powersurge, not that you want to claim it. May as well go cheap on the replacement and move all the good parts to a new machine.

my beloved youngest daughter use to put coins in the floppy drive (she thought it was a piggybank).
when she got older, i'm pretty sure she stuffed a floppy disc in the drive upside down (she is a determined young lady)
most recently, she totally f#cked her Micron PIII800 to the point where i can't even get windozs to reinstall!
you gotta love'm

My favorite is the guy that couldn't get a floppy out of the drive so he squirted melted butter in the slot with a turkey baster and pulled the disk out with pliers. He then discovered the release button.
