Daughter posts disrespectful rant on Facebook, father shoots laptop

All teenagers think they're put upon house slaves at one point or another but after listening to the father read what the girl posted I can well understand why the father was so upset.

That "cleaning lady" is actually a disabled family friend who helps them out as her way of paying for needed tech services. That comment alone from the daughter merited stern parental discipline IMHO.

The kid was acting out in a self absorbed manner displaying a sense of entitlement that was really hurtful to others, using profane language to express her POV & doing so in a public arena.

I might have donated the notebook to the "cleaning lady" & required daughter to wait on her for a few months rather than shoot the notebook but I totally get why the father did what he did.

Dad seems a bit unstable.

Frankly, that's a lot of normal teenage bitchiness. Though Facebook offers outlets that didn't really exist before, and so maybe kids are a bit more mouthy than they used to be. Either way, that was just some shit that she would have bitched to her friends about in school, no one else ever really hearing it, just as every kid her age has done for many generations. She would have grown out of that, possibly, seen the error in her then-developing social faculties, and no one would have ever really suffered for it.

Her post was exactly what one would expect of an adolescent and his response was exactly what one would expect of an adolescent. Eventually she will grow up and possibly be a decent human being. Him, not so likely.

That's right. Every parent should be expecting the day to come when their adolescent child will test them. How they respond will be a determining factor in whether or not their child becomes a decent human being. Children don't just "become" decent human beings by having parents who leave them alone when they display improper behavior.

Yeah kids have the same angst and frustration they always did, the only difference is that now their bullshit can be seen and heard around the globe in a split second. THATS the problem. They never learned to keep their bullshit to themselves or their best friends. And as dumb & slow as American kids are, it will probably take a couple generations for that lesson to be learned.
