Any sport that women play professionally is no longer a sport but has just turned into a game.... Egocentric maybe, but definately know the difference between a sport and a game. And while we are on the subject, yes Michael Jordan would one of the greats of all time.
I would have to say our Brett Favre is close to your Beckam (in fame only), excluding the mullet, and the queer factor.

Who TF are you trying to kid? Who comes to mind with the most famous player in Sports? I think of Brett Favre, Babe Ruth, or Muhammed Ali.
Ha ha. You can be sure a LOT more people know Beckam than Favre, etc..
But, of course, the world's most famous athlete is Michael Schumacher. ;-)

and for those guys who think soccer is boring to watch i totally felt that way to untill i started watching european soccer, MLS just doesnt have what the premier league has. the pace is much faster and more exciting to watch. theres not so much back passing and waiting and waiting, its alot more attacking.
