David, and everyone else, if you wish to sign up for Porivo PEER, please click here

This program runs on your computer, and uses you internet connection to do distributed "access" of websites, to test the corresponding websites out for load capacity. It may take you a few days for your account to become "Active", in which case you will start to accrue money for running it, and of course the more PCs you can run it on, the more money you can make

OK, I have the client running on my main machine, this one. It seems to have no slow down affect, resources are the same. After it goes from pending to active and all seems OK I'll try it on the other machines. Then determine if it slows down existing SETI crunching.

Edit: Interesting, resources went up 2%. There is a little more Hard Drive LED activity and there is some more DSL activity through two new ports that Porvivo are using. Just for the heck of it will run Enemy Teritory and see if any affect while running intensive gaming.
Edit: Game ran fine. Amazing what PC's can do now. Still running old XP1600 on ASUS MB here, did put in DDR PC3500 CAS 2 Memory in though and that made all the difference able to run all this at same time. With old PC2100 CAS 2.5 Memory it choked trying to do any of this kind of pushing the system to the max. Also it went from running like a 1800 overclocked to 2100. Can imagine what the new 400 boards can do with the 2500 chips, wow.

Garry,

How come yesterday the client said .24 potential $$$ and today it went down to .17? I have had it running continously since I loaded it on the machine.

I have found that some days give me more money than others. It gives you money not on how long it's online, but how much work is done in that day. It could be that some days you don't test as many sites as others.

I could see that affecting the Daily total count but not the monthly and lifetime columns.

Edit: It has corrected itself. Now the Monthly and Lifetime totals are not at zero and climbing.
Still says pending though after nearly week.

I just saw on the USA Network the JAG episode that they featured the SETI@Home project. The episode was made and aired in 2001 around the same time that I was attacked for running Distributed Computing. Guess Georgia's Top Politicians don't watch JAG do they.

I remember that episode. It was cool. Heh, they thought they had found ET. Or at least a good candidate.

I wonder how many people checked out SETI after that episode?

Guess Georgia's Top Politicians don't watch JAG do they.
They don't do a LOT of stuff. :|

Garry, I've had the Client running 8 days now and it still says "Pending", how long do they take?
BTW everyone, this Java program does not slow down the machine at all so running a DC client like SETI which is running on this machine and running the Porivo Client at the same time is fine. This machine would crank out 5 or 6 WU's day before and does the same after with the Porivo client running as well.

They say it takes about 10 days to change your account status to Active from Pending, but IIRC it took a couple of weeks to do with mine.

Mark, it uses your bandwidth to "stress test" sites on a distributed scale, the companies pay them to stress test their servers, then Porivo pay the "peers" (us) for the amount of time they are using the connection/pc. When there is no work, it will just sit idle and connect every 15 mins to see if there's any jobs.

It's written in pure JAVA and apparently this code doesn't tax the system at all. I have a SETI Q, SETI CLI and the Porivo all running at the same time.

It did take a few percent of system resources (memory) to run but I have 256 Meg on board so it has no affect.

Am running Porivo [which is now called Gomez, btw] almost from the start now and never had any problems with it.

Dave
It seems Porivo has enough members in your area, otherwise they would activate your account almost immediately.
The only thing you can do, is let your machines run and build up activity (thus money). If they activiate your account, the amount stashed in there will be payed to you.

What you can do also, is change your email address to the one Confused uses, since he has an active account. He said earlier, he was going to send you all the money he gets from Porivo, so I think he won't have a problem with that.
If you are going to do this, I want to advice you to let one machine run with your own email address, so Porivo will see you're still active. If your status changes, you can alter your email address after that.

There is another program, that almost works the same as Porivo.
It is called CapCal, short for Capacity Calibration Network.
Requirements are a high bandwidth connection (cable, adsl or up) and always on the internet.
It makes me some $3-4 per month.

Peter.

Garry,

I'm deleting the Gomez Porivo client today. Below is the E-mai I got this morning. Like you said it is probably reason #4, I'm not needed so I'll put on something else that is needed, I'll try the Cap Cal thing, I heard of it before but didn't know it was still up and running.

Thank you for your interest in becoming a Gomez PEER! We have received
an overwhelming response from users all around the world.

Unfortunately, we have not been able to accept you as an Active Gomez
PEER at this time, but have designated you as a "Pending" Gomez PEER.
This means you will not be paid for your PC's online availability or
processed work, but you will continue to earn credit for your online
activity. Gomez is reviewing Pending Gomez PEERs' application forms on
an on-going basis and will make selections according their PC's online
activity and our customers' needs.

The following is a list of the most common reasons why you may not have
been selected as an Active Gomez PEER. For a complete explanation and
steps on how to resolve these issues, please visit
http://www.porivo.com/peernetwork/html/faq.htm#notSelected.

1. Incomplete information or errors on the application form

2. You have not downloaded, installed, and run the Gomez PEER.

3. The Internet connection type, country, and zip code you indicated in
the "Preferences" box on the Gomez PEER user interface does not match
the true location and bandwidth of your machine.

4. Your system characteristics and system activity do not meet Gomez's
current business needs.

Please be sure to continue to run the Gomez PEER while you are online
because we will be tracking your online availability and work processed.
Given the volume of applicants, it may take up to 10 business days
before we notify you of your account status. If you are selected as an
Active Gomez PEER, your account will be credited with any earnings you
accrue during the calendar month in which you are activated. Your
patience and understanding is greatly appreciated.

I can't PM since the subscription server went down. I got the E-mail last night Garry. Absolutely no wonder why there is the Elite Nomination thread. Has that gone through yet?

Anyway, with the cooler Weather here the Landscaping work I was doing which doesn't bring in any signifiant money is over. I'm looking to see if there any Factory jobs left in the area. Many of the Factories here closed over the summer as these Companies did not go out of business but retain the identity of a U.S. Company but shipped all the jobs overseas. They should be forced to lose any designation as an American Company and be competely registered as a Foreign Company. There is some Help Wanted signs in places like Radio Shack in the local mall for Seasonal Christmas Sales which I will check into as well.

I read through the article, etc, but basically you were being way oversued for something you did wrong, right?

Did you have any supervisors permission to run the DCP or were you the highest one up?

Hey, a State employee says something after nearly two years, from Thread called - Interesting Website REutsourcing

A different perspective here. Admittedly its probably because I have a great job, my view would probably be a bit different if I didnt, but then it would be based on bitterness rather than my true beliefs.

And yes, dmcowen being in this thread at all is quite ironic, since he probably doesnt deserve an IT job anywhere after abusing someone elses property.

Ah, an almighty State of Georgia employee speaks. At least you have the guts to speak your mind to my face and not hide behind skirts like the School Officials, Baker, Barnes and Cleland.
