I am sure the California education system is far better than what they have in Indiana. Arkansas, Mississippi, West Virginia, etc.

Davis has two ways of dealing with California's deficit:
1. Reduce costs, spending
2. Increase income, taxes

What do you suggest he do?

Cool! Thanks to gray davis, my school had to issue pink slips to 156 teachers, faculty, and campus security people.

Our science department, which is already strapped for cash (since another california law passed saying that kids CANNOT pay for the lab materials) is basically screwed. The labs don't even have working bunsen burners since the methane valve is leaky. The chem lab is in the sh!tz.

Athletics, School Newspaper, and other extra curricular school affiliated activities will take a 60% budget cut.

Most of the classroom materials will now come out of the teachers pockets.

And to make matters worst, our school just made another order for a few 17" cinema displays (for the g4s) and our superintendant and assistant superintendant gave themselves a 15% pay raise. (upping their salary from $150k to $175k)

Texas currently has a similar budget problem. First order from the governor was a 7-8% across the board spending cut. This only solves about 1/2 problem, but it is a very good first step.

Such is life. Now deal with it or crawl into a corner and cry your wee eyes dry.
It's quite easy complaining about the game when you've never stepped foot on the field.

Life will always be about the haves and the have-nots and those who whine, simper and beg for affirmative action, tax cuts, and increased government then complain when sh!t hits the fan obviously have no understanding of the situation and serve only to exemplify the sheer childishness of the general population. Liberalism is fine and dandy, but I have no patience for fools who sit on their asses all day expecting handouts just because they happen to be breathing especially when they're the one who complain the loudest.

I know some prisons in Texas have been closed and alot of people have been paroled or are in the process of being paroled. Thats big chunk of money.

Actually, the group to blame are the Republicans in CA. Dick Riordan would have won by a nice margin had the Republicans voted for him in the primaries instead of Simon. Davis was smart though by running ads against Riordan during the primaries.

Davis being a liberal or not has nothing to do with the deficit. New York is in a similar situation and its governor would push a brick out if someone called him a liberal. States cut taxes while the economy was fat. Now these states are faced with lower revenues and huge deficits because the economy is in recession. So if you need to finger someone blame the conservatives who pushed through huge tax cuts five years ago.

I have to hand it to you. You whine and recite the conservative compassionism schpiel with the best of them.

Face it, there are a lot ofchildren in California that need education. Not all of their parents are contributing to the state coffers. What we are seeing in California now, we will be seeing in other states before long. A tough situation anyway you look at it.

why, so the republicans could take the blame when it's time to fix Davis' mess? I'm glad he has to stay and face the music... and there's about a 90% chance of getting a repub in office next election.

the voters didn't exactly get a great number of candidates for the job...I think Davis is the worse of two evils...
