So, I went and saw Dawn of the Planet of the Apes tonight, and it's a good movie. Even with the significant primate count in this movie, I thought the CGI was pretty good all-around. Although, that really just means that nothing in particular stood out to me, but they did have a few very close-up shots of the monkeys (Caesar primarily), and they looked good. I'm not sure how much motion capture was used overall in the film (all I know is Serkis did Caesar), but it was interesting to just watch the movement at times.
Overall, the story may not surprise most in regard to its major path... especially if you've seen the trailer. Although, I think they did a good job getting there.
I thought the human actors were okay, but the movie wasn't too fair to them as the focus is really more on Caesar and the apes than the humans. So, the humans didn't really get as much development as I would've liked, but it was decent overall. I don't think it hurt the movie too much.
Final thoughts? I think it's good enough that I'd probably see it again if someone wanted to go, and I'd even pay my own way! It's pretty rare for me to be willing to see a movie more than once as most aren't even good enough to see the first time.
