Let?s not forget that Games workshop has had its tabletop warhammer 40k game out for decades, blizzard actually copied the tyranids when they included the zerg in starcraft. As a matter of fact, starcraft in general is likely a conceptual copy of warhammer 40k. I remember thinking, when starcraft came out, ?man this is like 40k, only on PC!?. Not that starcraft is a bad game, I loved playing it; just that it is not the more original of the two. Now, when it comes to the feel of the tyranids in DOW, effectively it might seem like a rehash to non-GW fans. Only because they fail to recognize who came up with the idea.

Just to clarify, I don?t think GW was wholly original either; they include elements of Robert Heinlein?s Starship Troopers (I?m not talking about the crappy movie), Aliens (the movie) and various other sci-fi sources. But GW is definitely more original than Blizzard, who happen to be more successful at porting GW?s ideas to the PC than GW has been (Warcraft/Warhammer), at least until Relic and DOW.

I collect Warhammer Fantasy, too expensive for me to do both. I have a Wood Elf army that is coming together nicely, only slowly!

Is that the same as Blizzard's Zerg?

I want the 'nids just to see genestealers rip space marines to shreds and the almighty carnifex stomping and slicing through lesser lifeforms.

Alien, non-humanoid, animal-like in their instincts, aggressive. Could remind me of a swarm of wasps.

So yes, to me they do sound like the Zerg. There are major differences in background and how Tyranids take over planets but Im not getting the feeling that they will add something really interesting to the game for me. Its gonna feel a little like deja vu.

As a long time Warhammer (both Fantasy and 40k player), it kind of annoys me when people say that Tyranids sound like Zerg. Though not your fault, it should be known that GW came up with Tyranids long before Zerg came into being, and most likely Blizzard stole much of the concepts for Zerg from Tyranids (though Tyranids probably took some concepts from Starship Troopers, the book).

As for the expansion, I am looking forward to it. Dawn of War (and Winter Assault) is one of my favorite games. Very well done IMO. I think the hidden race will be Necrons just because they already had them in game. If I was deciding, I would like to see added variations on space marines and chaos (Nurgle is my favorite God, Space Wolfs my favorite Marines). And I'd love to see Tyranids. Tyranids vs. IG are my favorite matchup

Not really a huge fan of either of the new races (Tau and Necrons) but I can't wait for the new expansion. DoW was great, and WA made it even better. Just hoping they add another new unit to each race. Definitly want to see Eldar Striking Scorps and a non-Khornate chaos unit (Tzeentch or Nurgle! Even tho Khorne IS my favorite). I've put more time into DoW than any other RTS since TA or Starcraft.

Loved DoW, but wasn't too thrilled with WA. Hope this new one will have a better single player campaign than WA.
