pretty damned good, in my opinion.
it's like DoD, though purists would argue the finer points of this.

not having played a lot of DoD, I can't make a great comparison of the two, but the action is like a hyper BF1942, with much better eye candy and no vehicles, and smaller maps.

I'm still not sure I would pay $20 for it, but it made the Silver package from Steam very much worth it.

tons and tons of opinions lie in steam's forums:

I have to admit, it's pretty fun. Intense too, especially on maps like Anzio. Two thumbs up!

what game is most like, it sounds like BF and CS:S kinda in one. I'm just trying to get an idea what it's really like before I buy it.

Thanks.

I bought it and played it all the time for about a week. Then I started playing CS:S again, and now I don't play DoD:S anymore. So I kind of regret buying it. I think the only reason I don't like it is because it is WWII. I have never played DoD, so I don't know how to compare it.

If you're concerned about maps, a note on the steampowered pages said as soon as they're done with the addon level for HL2 they'll add more content to DoD:S.

Plus I'm starting to see servers with custom maps on them now. Most suck but there's a couple of good ones.

I love it, it's way worth the money IMO. Btw, it will run great on your computer, so don't worry about that.

It's unfortunate that so many people didn't get the Silver Package. I can't really say if it's worth the money since I put less than $10 into it. However, I love the game. I enjoy it as much as the best days I've had with the original. It's smoother now, though. There's also little changes that make the experience that much more enjoyable. Many of those who loved the original have a hard time dealing with the changes, though. I don't blaim them, but I just think they should get over it.

The maps, while there are only four right now, are quite excellent. They chose a good set from the original to remake and did so noticeably well. They're hard to get bored of and by that time I imagine we'll have another map.

I bought the silver package, so I don't regret it at all.

I've got an x800xt, and same CPU/RAM as you, it runs great at 1920x1200.
the xl, you might need to lower the lighting effects (disable HDR) or lower resolution to keep the speed up.

you'll be fine.

I've got a 9800 Pro, which is worse than the x800xl, right? I have HDR and anti-aliasing on full. It averages 30-40 fps.

If I was you, I would consider buying both. Seeing as to how both will cost $70 combined, you could look at them as like buying a special edition of some games. Hell, the DVD version of Quake 4 cost $60, that's close.

As for your system running CoD2 at full settings, it depends on your definition of full settings. If you're throwing AA and AF into the mix, then no. If you're running any higher than 1024x768, then probably not, but I'm not sure. Check my system specs in my sig, then know that I was able to run the demo at 1680x1050, all settings high, with 4xAA and 8xAF, at around 20-28 FPS.

that's phenomenal! what resolution? it didn't run so hot on my machine with 6x AA and HDR on. only bringing AA to 2x would make it smooth (slowest=40FPS)

COD2 seems like it'll be a great singleplayer game, like the first.
Multiplayer in COD really doesn't work for me.
well, it works, I just don't like it much.

I play all my games at 1024x768...I probly won't touch AF at all...but I will turn 4xAA on for sure.
