WOW WOW WOW. I had never played DoD before, but I have played CS and TFC a lot.

Anyways, I was blown away by the DoD mod. It is a total and obvious rip off of Saving Private Ryan, but that was ok with me. It was royally fun. I kinda got just a tiny little 1% idea of what the guy's who really stormed the beach felt like. I was killed several times without knowing how I died, and the death cam often.

The sound quality was amazing, and the weapons were fun to use.

The best part of the game for me came in the burned out city map, I played as a Nazi and was kinda hiding in this little tunnel next to one of the main streets. 3 allied soldiers ran past the opening to the tunnel I was in, I got out and mowed all 3 of them down from behind. Cool stuff.

You MUST PLAY THIS MOD if you haven't.

I totally agree. In the past whenever I have had time to play a game, I have played some CS. Since I found Day of Defeat, it is the only game I have played. Lots of fun and I find it amazing well balanced.

well, maybe you should try the new 1.3 beta version. It's the first version I've played and is awesome, maybe the previous ones weren't as good.

Ahah so the new 1.3 beta is out? Coool. I got into it a few weeks ago and was waiting for the 1.3 beta then I started playing D2 again and I've been playing WW2 Online but I'll check it out today or tomorrow.

For when it was a 1.2 beta, it seemed really polished and was kickass.

It's not a rip off of SPR, it's a simulation of WW2

The original version Neo first loaded was a little buggy. I should redownload it again, as it was a lot of fun.

instead of a new post, i'll just piggyback on this one

my newbie question about DoD is:

is the gameplay like cs? is there an objective for allies and/or axis?
or is it just like teamplay deathmatch?

I think you can call Sierra and tell them that your cd key got ripped and they will disable it and give you a new one.

DoD is excellent...some maps are better then others though.

The city maps are my favorites so far, Omaha beach is a good one also.
I like the limits also, played on a server where a team couldn't have more then 2 snipers. Keeps things balanced.

I've had some bad experiences with exploiters on DoD games thought. So I don't play it to much. Nothing ruins a game faster then a wall hacker with a sniper rifle plinking you through a building when you have zero chance of getting him.

Get on a good server though and it is a great game.

Some newbie experiences:

I just tried it out. I think I prefer its realism to CounterStrike's. I heard from someone on a random server that FF was permanently on due to a bug(that ensues if you turn FF off), but I like it this way. Of course, this slowed down my own trigger finger, so I got killed when I could have fired first. Oh well. Better than team killing.

Some people don't feel the same, though. I got tk'd by someone whose life I saved. He was running up a hill, and an enemy shot at him, so he dropped to the ground. Then I killed the enemy from below him, but then, as I was running up towards him, he turned around and shot me. Lovely.

I also stumbled onto an enemy spawn in my first hour of play and killed five guys. They all totally bitched, but refused to believe that I didn't know the map. Too bad for them. I wasn't even inside the spawn, just nearby, so I blame them for not being able to kill me. Chucking a grenade into the building was a mistake, I'll admit, but that was before I knew it was a spawn. It didn't hit anyone, so I don't feel too bad.

DoD was one of the last mods I played some 3 months back. If 1.3 is out, I might try to pick it up again. I've just about given up online gaming, due to cheating and other crap.

DoD is great fun. A fresh change of pace from CS, it's much more involving IMO because there is no waiting for a round to end. We play it at all our lans now.

NEO:

here is the day of defeat website

Go here and download it, and put it up on your server. It really is an awsome mod. With the new 1.3, they have done a whole lot more. The sounds are authentic (the mod guys either own the guns and fired them or went to someone who does own them and got the real sounds), and the models are top knotch.

I heard there is one annoying bug. You can't start a server with DOD_Omaha as the starting map. But it will load up normally if you just don't start with it.

Other than that, it is a great mod, and will be better than CS when it becomes a full version. It already is almost better (the gameplay is better, but it is less polished then CS) in my opinion, and it is still a pretty early beta.

Gameplay is way more realistic. Untill you get good, you will be dying all the time. Like one shot in the body with a rifle will kill you. Storming the beach in Omaha is a b!tch. You have to get people one by one up to the cliffs. This takes a LONG time as you die really fast. But once you get about 8 people at the base of the cliffs, you can then storm up the path and make a breakthrough (sometimes).

There arn't as many good maps, but it is early beta so that is alright. Try DOD_Caen. It is the Dust of DOD. Really good city map.

There are objectives in each map. They haven't implimented all the gameplay types yet, so most of it is a varient of capture the flag. There are flags around the map denoting strategic positions. You run over to capture the flag/area for your team. If your team controls all the areas, you win and everything starts over. So it requires defending your current areas and launching attacks on enemy positions. There is also capture the enemy docutments and bring them back to your spawn varient, though I think that this isn't used much. There are a couple of maps where you have to take the explosives to a certain thing and blow it up (on Omaha you have to take and blow up the artillary).

Hope that helped. Download this MOD! When I first did, I thought I would never go back to CS. Didn't play CS for about 1 month (where I had been playing it daily for a long time). Now, I still play CS but it is about 50/50 with DOD.

BTW... is WW2 Online any good yet? I had really high hopes for this game but didn't buy it because of the mass dissapointment that was shown. If it is better now with the patches I would still consider picking it up.
