The official HIVE servers get hackers consistently and are very shoddy most of the time in terms of desync/lag. Even if they fixed it I doubt anyone running on my HIVE system would go back after playing on the NON-HIVE servers.

I honestly have mixed feelings about the whole hive concept that is central to the official servers. Its nice because you can still play if your favorite server is down and still have all your gear but it really introduces a lot of weird meta gaming issues like combat logging, ghosting, server hopping to loot, and single point of failure, etc. I'm not close enough to know but I hear rumblings that after hackers get their cdkeys banned they DDOS the hive server in retaliation. I feel like its overall not a good design choice even though I understand why Rocket went that direction.

Zombies are stupid, you can just zigzag and outrun them.

I dont really fear them at all. I just run into a town looking for buildings, and if I see an open building I go in a axe them in the head till they are all gone. If there is no building I just run into the woods and zig zag through trees and/or bushes, and they get stuck or disappear. I dont know which, I just know they are gone quickly after doing it.

First two lives went 3 and 6 hours. First death was because I ran into a small barn with zombies on my butt and I picked up a double barrel shotgun, and it made my axe disappear. It didnt drop or go into the tool belt, it just disappeared. So I ran out of ammo quick and it was a slow torturous death. If this is supposed to be "realistic", I should be able to use my flashlight or empty weapon as a melee. Even if it takes a couple head shots, it would be better than nothing. Second death a zombie lunged or lagged at me from like 15 ft away and one shot knocked me out. Took me under 4K blood and I couldnt see. So after 15 mins of blurry vision I just said f it and ran around a field making a last stand.

In both cases, I was looking for food. I had knives and meat, but no god damn matches. I wasnt even finding food in buildings. I was looking for food from the beginning, and would get to the point where the indicator started blinking. I think I could survive forever with just the axe, water bottle, knife and matches. The matches are so damn hard to find though, and this is Europe, so it makes no sense with all the heavy smokers. If you go into a house, there should always be matches. Same with a gas station or store, unless someone took them and you have to wait for the items to respawn.

One thing I like, which makes no sense, is when you head shot a zombie with an axe. It makes a bullet ping sound. I find myself challenging them with the axe all the time. Just run for a sec or two, turn around, and *ping*! lol

Indeed, Only thing that i dont really care for is the 10-15 bandit group you guys have on server 1 so i usually avoid that server or go back to playing on the official servers.

I bought arma 2 for this during the sale, but it doesn't seem to want to work. Just trying to run the game I get "Bad Serial Number Given in setup" and it closes.

Google says running steam as administrator might fix this. Heh, what a wonderful work-around, throw away any level of security gained by running games with a root-privileged account.

You can fill it using the wells in towns. I think there used to be a bug where you would lose your stuff if you go too far into water, so I avoid it. Speaking of bugs, there was this weird one where I was trying to fill my water at a well, and it didnt look like it was working. So I did it 3 times. Ended up with 3 water full bottles, when all I had was one!

This problem mysteriously fixed itself. All working fine now, without admin rights, thankfully.

I'm just talking in general. If I have an empty water bottle and run across a pond or whatever, i just take a few steps in, not far, and use the bottle to fill it up. never had a problem before.

If you have an axe just run in the house and take them out one at a time when they reach the threshold. I got tired of trying to solid snake my way into a house or barn just to find nothing in there. Best weapon I've found is a 1911. Not even a Winchester or Enfield. And only 3 cans of food in 9 hours of play. And its not like I am in the populated areas, I head north as fast as I can. Thankfully, I've only run into one human player who tried to kill me. I was already running from zombies, and he tried to snipe me. The zombies then ran after him. lol I guess he wanted my axe.

I finally found a crowbar, but went afk to talk to my roommate for 30 seconds and when I came back I was being eaten.

just downloaded arma, havent installed mod yet, but my initial impressions are: my god these controls are weird. I could barely get through the obstacle course. Anyone else have this problem? Does it add to to "realism" of this game? I feel like my character is drunk, is the only way i can describe it. and wtf are these button assignments? Gonna have to do some changing there.

I was originally planning to wait for arma 2, but a friend wanted me to get it so i could play with him. Starting to regret buying it.

you can turn off the head bob. there's tons of controls so i just left my keys default.

I dont think thats all thats bothering me, it feels like turning left and right is delayed or something? Just going through the obstacle course was difficult...

Be sure to turn off mouse smoothing, and additionally, Vsync if you're cool with that.
