225 * 225 = ~50,000... easy mistake.

No way is it 225km on each side. That's ~140 miles in each direction. It takes about 30 minutes, tops, to cross the map on foot. That would mean you were running at 280 miles per hour!

Even 225km^2 (15km high/wide) sounds like too much. That's a bit over 9 miles to a side, which would mean I'm sprinting at 18mph.

From experience....it takes more than thirty minutes to cover the map on foot.

i do know that when i was cruising on a bike the other day if i was riding on the highway i could get about 46 mph... so who knows. you might be sprinting at 18 mph.

What I meant was....is the game populated by 12 year old griefers...
Yes, most definitely. If you want yet another COD PVP deathmatch experience this is for you; however if you want to play a zombie apocalypse survival game, look elsewhere.

Sometimes people group up with the best intentions, but the group breaks down due to whatever and everybody just ends up killing each other. There is a lot of distrust between players in the game, and I think that is the best part of the simulation. Think about what it would really be like to survive and apocalypse; this game comes pretty close I think.
This is where all the grief and misunderstanding comes from: the game is NOT a simulation, it is an experiment. The game devs have made that intention clear time and again.

Despite hollywood-inspired fantasies of a madmaxx-esque lawless badlands, the human response to a zombie apocalypse would likely be no different than any other "apocalypse" we've survived (all 300+ thousand years of them, from famines to plagues to war. You'd be hard pressed to find any situation in history where humans acted even remotely the way that "game" plays out because we'd all be dead if we killed each other on sight just for the lulz. With the exception of a few delinquents, humans have a tendency to prefer teamwork and work together, and to generally not engage in conflict unless there is a pressing need (starvation/dehydration is a pressing need; 'haha i shot u in face' is not. 99% of the game is the latter). The simple respawn mechanics and (lack of) any real penalties just serve to reinforce the deathmatching gameplay and edge out any other gameplay that might have (and did in early days) emerged.

Make no mistake, this isn't a zombie apocalypse simulation (people who play it like so are just setting themselves up to be griefed) and once you understand the AI mechanics and the insignificance of the zombies versus the human threat, it's not even anything to do with zombies anymore - it's just another deathmatch mod with a side order of uninteresting NPCs.

HAHA TRUE
-server clans get bored and just hunt noobs as they have acquired all the best stuff and have control of the server in some cases

-joined a server last night after a re build from 2 hacking deaths and 4 miss-starts that went bad, alice pack ,12000 blood ,4x cooked meats ,looking for better weapons only having a dinner bell and mak ,in a small town Pusta crawled to the first house ,then on my way across the street I'm dead ,while bleeding out saw the 3 snipers lol.at the house I just cleared ,I happen to check my game map and no players were seen ,before crossing ,so only being on that server US1025 with 14 players[for 30 min.] But 3 had [GG] tags so wtf hack ? it's a big island to run across 3 head hunters in 30 min.

Well...played for the first time over the weekend and I'll say right off the bat that I love this concept...so much potential...

That being said and as others have said...a little buggy...things like stalled at loading screen, movement glitches (slow unless restart game), very slow to get into a game...

also, one weird moment...i'm playing and I finally found a shotgun with ammo...about a 1/2 hour later i was teleported into the middle of field with a ton of other people and some guys with automatic weapons killed us all..very strange...

I will keep trying to play and will definitely buy the stand alone when it comes out...

The teleport thing was a hacker. It happens sadly. Don't let it ruin things for ya though.

I don't know about that...I played about 6 hours over the weekend and saw maybe two people the whole time...this was on servers with about 50 people

i usually look for servers with low player count... less people = less chance of a hacker

that being said... i read an interview with the guy who made this that's also making the stand alone version... eliminating hacking is pretty much priority #1 for the standalone.

I guess I'm not the only one who stopped playing this game? Has anything been done about the hackers yet?

I stopped almost 2 months ago now. Just visited the Forums in the last couple days and there are still lots of complaints about Hackers. I think most of the effort behind DayZ is being directed towards the standalone at this time. Probably due to WarZ being further into development and practically the same game.

I think I'm finished
-grind for 3-4 days get most basic stuff,
get on a server 4-8 people ,
- get sniped in a small out of the way town in about 40 min's .

last death being chased by some zed's ,ran 25' out in the open , bullets start flying as if they where just camping around the town waiting for me to show myself.
-only on that server like 30 mins [crawling].
-spawned in the town from a different server.

I have been playing on a passworded private hive with three teams. No hackers. All the worst bugs are fixed. The only main bugs left are losing backpacks when changing clothes, irreparable helicopters that leak fuel, and duping items in tents by simply not saving the tent after item removal; on server restart the item is you took is back.

The server op even set it up so there's a few more vehicles, though I think we still manage to blow most all of them up every day.

Yeah, it's how the zombie apocalypse should be, if everyone's house was Fort fucking Knox.

Seriously, it kinda takes me out of the moment when I'm on the run from zombies and can't even dive through the nearest window or something. I know internal structures on every house is a tall order, but it REALLY needs that. That and supply drops make no sense. Why are barns the only places to find a gun? These are rural villages. In any given village at least one house should have a gun. Of course this would be more workable if you could go inside more than 1/10 houses.

The game is fun despite its flaws; it's an alpha test game. Here are more things I would fix.

Female zombies
Child zombies
Baby zombies
Move zombie path variation
Zombies should spawn on the whole map and stay until killed (most people use zombies as radar for players)
Car parts should come from cars
Zombies suck at running in buildings
Zombies are great at running through walls
Zombies player detection should be more consistent
Some sound volume issues related to how you hear the sounds you make yourself versus what other players hear
Remove some of the highest-end military gear, such as the AS50, M107, L85A2 AWS, and NVGs
Remove the choppers OR increase the spawn limit from 1 to like 4
Add a couple rivers to the map so boats are actually useful

I'd do the above but greatly restrict military weapons, less ammo and add some kind of melee (using axes) and some kind of basic crafting, like get a bat, hammer and nails now you have a spiked baseball bat.
bugs aside its a fun diverson

The weapons and NVGs I named greatly unbalance the game for PvP. The AS50+Nato mags can one shot a chopper or truck. The L85 has thermal. Only NVG-wearing people can effectively PvP at night.

Crafting kinds of lends itself to the storyline of the game for sure, but I doubt it will be implemented. The interface is buggy enough, so I can only imagine how badly another crafting interface would work.

Has DayZ been improved much in the last 2 months since I stopped playing? I don't think DayZ has to worry much about WarZ after seeing player videos on youtube today...looks uninspired and very unpolished. Even an aimbot/nameplate hack already available for WarZ so you won't escape the cheating either.

That sounds like Project Zomboid. It has that kind of crafting, although it is an isometric game.

Some servers have antihacks and new/fixed features, but overall hacking has _KILLED_ this game. You will see regulars but those people are usually just late to the dayz party. I hardly see any of my june-july players from our server.

If you do play again, try our servers (search for Rinaun in the server filter). We keep them pretty maintained and clean
