It is a zombie survival game based on the Arma 2 engine (started off as an Arma 2 mod). It is supposed to be realistic (as far as zombies go) in that it is about survival not shoot zombies. There is no real objectives other than to survive. You have to eat, drink, and avoid most human contact (as they will probably kill you for your gear, even if you have none). This is like a thinking man's Left 4 Dead, except it is populated by children who have cheats.
The problem is Arma 2 is awful from a game standpoint. The UI is intentionally obtuse and the hyper realism just isn't fun. It doesn't help at one point literally only a single guy was working on development and the source code he posted when looking for answers was pretty bad according to a friend of mine who was on his forums.
This is a great concept if it was executed properly. Sadly, this is still better than The War Z.
'I'm seeing much less kill-on-sight than you would expect' That's because there is only 3 guns in the game and takes around hours to find ammo. I always KOS now, it's more fun. Trust me! :twisted:If you liked the mod, you'll like the standalone.
I haven't played the mod in a long, long time so I don't know how it really compares to the standalone presently. I would say it is less buggy than the mod I remember from ~2ish years ago.
I am definitely enjoying the standalone. I'm seeing much less kill-on-sight than you would expect. The wave stance and hands-up stance help you discern risk pretty quickly.
Pretty much splitting my Arma zombie time 50/50 between this and the Arma 3 Breaking Point mod.
'combat logging' I hate that too. You kill someone and they back out lol.The inventory interface is hugely improved. Most buildings can now be entered and looted. Graphically the game is quite a bit better, but needs optimization. Guns are harder to come by and snipers are almost non existent. The survival aspect is really emphasized, with food and water being your primary concerns early on. So far haven't seen any hacks of any sort. Biggest downfall in gameplay right now is that combat logging is rampant and must be addressed immediately.
It's not for everyone. It's still very rough as an alpha. But the core aspects of the game that are done so far give them a much better platform to build on. Watch some lets plays and streams and decide for yourself.
Points taken.
In a nutshell, do not waste your money on this game.
Could someone give me a brief description of the game? It looks super interesting, but I am totally confused by Wikipedia article about it. I never heard about it.
Also, why does alpha version cost money? That's the first time I see something like that.
Are the controls better than it was in Arma II? That was so atrocious I stopped playing. It bothers me that people are saying it's based off Arma II....
I bought Arma II specifically for DayZ as did thousands and thousands of player, I'm not going to pay again for the same game, they are using a lot of the same stuff with almost no changes, map and so on, they simply stopped updating the Arma II mod and now are going to ask full price for it again...
I doubt that. Its hard to lose 200,000 players so quickly.
