Road repaving costs $1M/lane mile
yeah, but doesn't matter if i'm not planning on moving any time soon.
FTFY.After having been toLondonany developed countries, it's shocking just how bad our metro is by comparison. Obviously the train is a little more important to the Brits, but the difference is still shameful.

I walk by the construction occasionally and wonder how are they handling all the water/gas/steam/etc pipes underneath these 30-40 story buildings? Just keeping the buildings above them stable seems like an insane challenge. Are they basically rerouting all of the infrastructure as they grind their way south?
I hate the metro.
Any time I need to go into the city I take the VRE as far as I can and minimize metro use.
Milling only takes down 4-6 inches of exisiting pavement
If they want to rebuild the road foundation, another foot at the most.
Pipe lines are usually 4-6 feet down.
It will probably lose money every year, too...
I'm confused. The 2nd Ave subway is underground and is going to have a pretty large tunnel right? For the subway cars to travel through underneath 2nd Ave.
Are you saying that the subway tunnel is under all the piping so it shouldn't be too impacted by them?
Should public transit be a profitable enterprise? To only look at revenue and profit is rather myopic, as there are other external benefits.
