DDR Motherboards

with all of the obscure brands, and cryptic nomenclature, i've one question: what's the best motherboard for me?

more specifically, i'm looking for a mobo that supports DDR ram, and a 1.2+ghz T-Bird. i've also a Geforce2 MX 32 that i'll be putting into it, but most likely be upgrading that too within the next 6-12 months. i'm looking for a high quality product above all other factors, but also interested in compatibility, stability, and performance.

i'm interested to hear your stories, and recommendations..

I'm inclined to agree with Alohaboy. I'm currently collecting pieces to build a new system. I jumped on the deal for DDR RAM at Crucial, based on some of the early reviews of DDR mobos. Now, the climate has changed. There seems to be lots of conflicting reports on the future of DDR, not to mention the 3 chipsets available. Current reviews say to avoid the VIA and ALI chipsets and stick to AMD. Problem is, I want onboard RAID and sound and there currently aren't any good AMD boards available with these features. Plus, the AMD boards are more expensive. I was planning to get the Iwill KA266-R, until I started reading poor reviews on ALI and other problems with the board.

Bottom line is, these boards are too new and the technology needs to shake out. The performance gain is marginal, unless you shell out the extra bucks for Asus A7M266. The 133A boards are cheaper, provide the features I want and are proven. I'm considering selling my DDR PC2100 RAM and getting a 133A board, prolly MSI K7T Turbo-R. Anyone have any suggestions?

my KA266 is great. 1gig AXIA @ 1320, 146fsb cas2. i get 645/840 on sandra memory benches, and 7220/8300 on cpu mulitimedia. the memory could be higher but ~20m/s isnt really noticable in real life work besides benches. its very stable and really have no probs with it

thanks for the input. i acutally have become infixed on the MSI K7T Pro266, it seems like it'll meet all of my needs for the time being, i can't find any major flaws in it. if anyone can, i'd like to hear them.
