Yeh, thanks for the link fixup, Delta. I didn't catch that in the preview. But, I believe that is two 1 GB sticks.

Just RMAed a set only to receive another set that got 1 bad stick, so RMA that again. See what I get agagin. This quality issue is unbelievable simply because Ballistix used to be the vream of crops for them.

Not trying to thread crap here... but........
Wouldn't it stand to reason that these are so cheap because of the quality issues?

I have been using Ballistix ever since they first came out (DDR) and never had problem one.
There was a quaity issue that showed up around Nov 05, well documented on hardocp and XTSys
http://hardforum.com/showthrea...?t=981479&page=1&pp=20
- but that has long since been remedied.
Just really wish they didnt use that industrial grade thermal tape that is nearly impossible to remove without damaging something so that I could see if the chips are D9's or Promos

Updated:
However, just now read that new Ballistix (as of last few months) are SINGLE SIDED sticks and not D-9 double sided and the trick is to RMA the ram using the phone help and specify you want the double sided sticks as replacement
So, I guess I am done with Ballistix.
:disgust:

Oh and by the way, its now $15 free ship
(now OOS)

yes, they are all single sided now. I actually didn't know you can specify you want double sided during RMA process. I will have to try that once my other set start dying off on me, still waiting for this set to be properly replaced. I don't understand is why don't can't test the kits BEFORE sending them out to customers/retailers. Weed out the DOAs before sending them out and they will have far less RMAs to deal with. Why let the customers be your QA department?

I just looked at the last pair of Ballistix PC2 8500 i got - single sided (oh oh)
I really dont understand why a company like Crucial (MIcron) would risk their entire well deserved reputation as premium mem suppliers by using second class drams. I mean, I know RAM profit margins are razor thin nowadays, if there at all, but did they think they would fool the internet crowd?
Bad experiences travel around the net at the speed of light.
Who knows, maybe they use that super sticky ramsink tape so you CANT see the dram mauf.?

I am sure if they kept D9 sticks as a separate line - for more money - peeps would be happy to pay the extra freight, at least I would anyways.
Now, I guess I'll have to call OCZ and see what drams they are using for PC2 8500
Sheesh

The popular HP PX976AT 1GB PC2-5300 Micron memory is single-sided D9, and they work great. I have mine running at 800Mhz CL5 @ 1.8v.

Not sure what keeps them from making a decent single-sided PC2-6400 stick.

As far as I'm concerned Crucial makes junk, and I've bought my last ram from them. I rmad double sided Ballistix due to premature failure last year, and I'm looking at some double sided Tracers I need to rma due to failure. I haven't sent them back yet because I know I'm going to get junk in return, and I'm not sure it's worth paying for the shipping.

Wow, I thought this deal was off the charts until I read below that Crucial has been changing their manufacturing lately to use different chips...what a bummer. Glad I got the G.Skill HZs instead of Ballistix last year, since the HZs are least guaranteed to be D9 (DDR2-950 at 4-4-4-12 stable).

When I bought them last year the price was about the same as the equivalent Ballistix ($100 ish). Looks like the pricing's gone up since then XD
